Earlier under Rs. 20 lakhs majority of the SUVs sold were compact SUVs. That is not because most of the full-size SUVs were not present. But because they were not worth buying. However not the situation has changed. Now, there are a lot of SUVs and different segments of SUVs that one can buy for around Rs. 20 Lakhs. Hence, let’s look at the SUVs that some time or the other have been the best-selling car in their segment, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra ScorpioN.
Note: Although there is some difference in prices between the top-end trims of both vehicles, the amount is not that significant. Hence we are comparing the top-end trims of both cars.

In addition, Hyundai also offers a naturally aspirated petrol engine for those who are not looking for performance. That said, there is how the engines are pitched with each other.

Mahindra Scorpio again has the power and torque figures in its favour. Additionally, Mahindra ScorpioN is the most powerful vehicle car under Rs. 15 Lakh, Rs. 20 Lakh and ever Rs. 30 Lakh (ex-showroom). Nevertheless, it is not as agile as the Hyundai Creta as it is heavier and is built on a ladder on the frame chassis. Where this chassis type is better for off-road purposes, it lacks cornering capabilities.

In the end, it comes down to the price and size. If you face parking problems and have a small family (maximum of 4) Creta petrol is a wise choice. But if you have a family with more than 4 members and do not care for parking altogether, ScorpioN makes more sense. As it offers more features and also is more powerful than the Hyundai.
