The Tata Safari is one of Tata’s most loved vehicle throughout the nation, with a modern avatar that aims to shine as an icon. The Alcazar on the other hand is a newbie from the house of Hyundai. But with intense competition already prevailing in the sizable SUV segment, finding out whether this newbie can take on a name that has a legacy of over two decades. Here’s the Hyundai Alcazar head-on with the Tata Safari
The Money Game
Like it or not, I am the kind of person that brings up the price game early on. Because I strongly believe that pricing is a crucial aspect that can never be ignored when you decide which vehicle to bring home. And since both the giants are launched to lock horns with each other, the first thing any practical buyer would look at is the prices. So here’s how the price game looks like.
Hyundai Alcazar | Tata Safari
Prices (ex-showroom) | Rs 16.30 – 19.99 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom Delhi) | Rs 14.99 – 21.81 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom Delhi) |
Well, the all-new Hyundai Alcazar seems to be giving tough competition to the Tata Safari. The top model of the Alcazar; the Signature Diesel AT is about ₹1.82 Lakhs cheaper than the top-end variant of the Safari. This is can be a considerable margin for those who love to bring home a vehicle in its top-spec avatar.
Practicality and Space
While dimension isn’t that crucial for many buyers out there, I still believe that it plays a crucial role, especially in congested metropolitans like Delhi. With cramped parking spaces and constant traffic, let’s see how both vehicles do when it comes to practicality and space.
Hyundai Alcazar | Tata Safari
Length (mm) | 4500 | 4661 |
Width (mm) | 1790 | 1894 |
Height (mm) | 1675 | 1786 |
Wheelbase (mm) | 2760 | 2741 |
Boot Space (litre) | 180 Litres all seats up | 73 Litres all seats up |
Ground Clearance(mm) | Currently Unknown | 178 |
Seating Capacity | 6 and 7 seater | 6 and 7 seater |
One thing that pushes the ball in the Alcazar’s court is its best-in-segment wheelbase. With 2760 mm of wheelbase, the Alcazar is sure to have a better and more spacious cabin layout than the safari. But with that said, the Safari comes as a much more aggressive vehicle thanks to it being lengthier, wider and taller.
Both the Alcazar and the Safari come with a 6 as well as a 7 seater version, with captain seats onboard the former and a bench for the latter. Hyundai has however gone ahead to equip the all-new Alcazar with a 1st in segment second-row console armrest that provides superior comfort along with “Sliding Seats” that offer versatile legroom.
The Power Game
Without an engine that is power-packed, efficient and capable, any vehicle can go down the drain. And when it comes to sizeable giants, the engine surely takes the centre stage. After all, powering a sizable vehicle is not a child’s play, striking the correct chord of torque, efficiency and power is the only thing that can make the vehicle shine amongst the intense competition.
ALCAZAR VS SAFARI | PETROL ENGINE COMPARISON |

Hyundai Alcazar | Tata Safari
Engine Type | 3rd Generation Nu 2.0 Litre Petrol Engine | N/A |
Displacement | 2.0 Litres | N/A |
Maximum Power | 159 PS | N/A |
Peak Torque | 191 NM | N/A |
Manual Transmission | 6-speed | N/A |
Manual FE | Currently Unknown | N/A |
Automatic Transmission | 6-speed | N/A |
Automatic FE | Currently Unknown
– |
N/A |
As evident from the comparison above, Tata’s veteran Safari simply misses out on a petrol engine. This directly means that for those who love petrol, the Safari is totally out of the game. The Alcazar on the other hand gets a capable 2.0-litre petrol engine which can even do a 0 to 100 sprint in under 10 seconds! Now that’s what we call power.
ALCAZAR VS SAFARI | DIESEL ENGINE COMPARISON |
||
Hyundai Alcazar | Tata Safari
Engine Type | Diesel | Diesel |
Displacement | U2 1.5 litres turbocharged diesel | 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel |
Maximum Power | 115PS | 170PS |
Peak Torque | 250Nm | 350Nm |
Manual Transmission | 6-speed | 5-speed |
Manual Claimed FE | Currently Unknown | 16.14 Kmpl |
Automatic Transmission | 6-speed | 6-speed |
Automatic Claimed FE | Currently Unknown | 14.8 kmpl |
Well, things look slightly different in the diesel game, where the Safari brings in more powerful 2.0-litre turbo units that help it take away the crown in almost all aspects. The only thing that can save the Alcazar would be the mileage which is still awaited to be revealed by the company. Nonetheless, the Safari seems like the true winner here.
Features and Safety | Which one is better?
Be it digital MIDs or touch infotainments, everyone has their own liking. And with a full-fledge SUV in question, things get even more exciting. With a plethora of features onboard both vehicles, it would be fun to see them both pitched against each other. So here is the feature and safety comparison.
