While May 2021 was a bad month for automotive sales in India. Considering the second wave of COVID-19 that struck India bad, there was a need for what the state governments actually did. The lockdown, no doubt has brought the number of cases down but it has affected the economy as well. Talking about the automotive industry, if you have a look at the best sellers you won’t find hatchbacks in the top ranks maybe because people of this affordability range had other priorities due to which they postponed their plans.

1. Hyundai Creta
   

   

   The month of May 2021 will surely be mentioned in the history of the Indian automotive industry because this is the first time that India has seen a brand other than Maruti on the top of the car sales chart. Hyundai Creta became the top-selling car in India with a sale of 7,527 Units. Creta has been in the news ever since it received a facelift. Although some people didn’t like the design at all, the sale figures tell us that many people liked it for sure!

2. Kia Sonet
   

   

   Talking about SUVs, we have compact SUVs on the list too. Kia Sonet was also among the top 10 selling cars of May 2021. Kia Sonet is another car in the Indian automotive industry that has been doing great ever since it was launched. Sonet has been successful in the Indian market and we are saying so because Venue has recorded comparatively low sales as far as May 2021 is considered.

3. Tata Nexon
   

   

   The safest compact SUV in India. Tata Nexon delivers everything that you expect from a car of this segment. Features, ride comfort, driveability and above all, safety. Nexon was silently updated with a set of alloy wheels in the recent past and considering the lockdown, Nexon recorded a pretty well sale amount of 6,627 units which is good considering the physical and the economic situation of the country.

4. Hyundai Venue
   

   

   Sonet’s sibling, the Hyundai venue is also among the top-selling cars in India. Now that we are talking about SUVs, we are talking about SUVs, Venue is on the list with a sale of 4,840 units despite the almost nationwide lockdown. The Venue comes with manual, automatic, iMT and turbo variants which makes it a popular pick among the SUV buyers in India.

5. Kia Seltos
   

   

   While Creta and Sonet are on the top, Venue and Sonet are together in the lower rankings. Seltos ended up selling 4,277 units in the past month which is pretty well but lesser than Seltos. In the initial days of Seltos’ launch, it was easily able to beat Creta in terms of sales but now Creta is picking up again. Let’s see how the future months roll for the Korean automakers.

6. Mahindra Bolero
   

   

   Not sure how this one climbed up this time but considering it is a true SUV, Bolero definitely needs a mention because Mahindra is known for developing true muscular SUVs in India and this time, Bolero has entered the top 10 selling vehicles in India this time because Maruti has lost grip this time. Bolero has a lot of potential for the Indian market and talking about Mahindra, if they launch their cars timely, we can see them climbing the charts really quick.
