Mahindra is preparing to launch the new generation Scorpio into the market this month. We are all familiar with the buyers’ long waiting periods due to the chip crisis and high demand. Their XUV700 already has a waiting period of 18 months, depending upon the variant. As the hype for Scorpio is more than the XUV700, it might go through the same. But the whole waiting period is making people reconsider their choice to switch from XUV700 to Scorpio; Let’s look at the current situation:
Higher Waiting Period for Scorpio-N
Scorpio is the second most selling SUV in Mahindra’s lineup after Bolero. The Scorpio-N is also based on the ladder-frame chassis with the rugged built and, as Mahindra calls it: “big daddy of SUVs”. It will still act as the bridge between the Thar & XUV700 as Thar is a hardcore off-roader while the latter is a practical city SUV.

The Scorpio-N will have derived elements from Thar & XUV700 but will be less sophisticated. It is expected to have a higher waiting period than the XUV700, but Mahindra says it is preparing for that to avoid the situation that happened with their previous launch and keep the supply steady.
Mahindra Rectifying Supply Disruptions
As it is less sophisticated technology-wise, it utilises fewer semiconductor chips. this can be an advantage to cut the waiting period a little and help the supply get back to the normal pace. Currently, Mahindra delivers about 3,500 Scorpios in a month, so the newer generation numbers are expected to go higher.

XUV700 received more than 25,000 bookings within the first hour of the launch. While the industry is still dealing with its issues, the additional high demands contribute to the vast waiting periods. If it all goes according to the plan, we might not have the same issue from September 2021.
Scorpio-N Launching on 27th June
While this generation update is set to launch on 27th June, should you prefer this over the XUV700?. As Scorpio bridges the gap in their lineup and offers the ruggedness from Thar along with the practicality & features from XUV700. If you have been waiting for your XUV700, you can consider switching to the Scorpio as it is bolder and has a better road presence.

It will have the same turbo petrol & turbo diesel engines from Thar & XUV700, but the power specs will be tuned slightly less. Mahindra will offer the top variants with a 4×4 to help you take challenging terrains, and unlike the XUV700, Scorpio-N will be a RWD like the previous generation.
So if you still want a slightly old-school feel without the digital tech clusters and the road presence with the high seating position, you can go for the Scorpio-N. Their price range will overlap & it will be a slight compromise on the interior and no ADAS either, but you might get your SUV soon if you act in time. Which one would you pick; Scorpio-N or XUV700?
