The Indian EV space will be welcoming Atto3 next year. The Chinese company BYD: Build Your Dreams is preparing to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market with their electric car Atto 3. It was launched in February 2022 in China and will be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. Let’s see what you need to know:
Blade Battery Technology
Globally it is available with two battery packs using the company’s patented Blade Battery technology, which is claimed to be safer than other battery technologies.

The smaller one is a 49.92kWh and the larger 60.48kWh battery pack with their respective WLTP ranges of 320 kilometres & 420 kilometres. The charging options will include a 3-pin AC charger & a Type-2 AC charger. In addition to that, it also supports an 80kW fast charger which recharges the EV in less than an hour.

BYD made its debut in India in 2017 in the commercial sector with electric buses. The Atto 3 will be their candidate in the passenger vehicle segment. The permanent synchronous motor churns out 204hp & 310Nm torque with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds for an SUV with a weight ranging between 1680-1750 kilograms. The international spec version of Atto 3 stands on 18-inch walls. It is equipped with LED headlamps, a digital cluster, powered seats, a panoramic sunroof, an electric tailgate, ambient lighting, and a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen. In addition to that, it is also equipped with ADAS and features such as adaptive cruise control, AEM braking, lane-keep assist & blind spot monitoring etc. In terms of safety, it is equipped with 7 airbags, hill descent control, 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system & ESP.

Atto 3 will be imported as a CBU unit; hence it will not be affordable as high duties will be imposed. The word around says it will be in a price range of around ₹30 lakhs, and it will compete with other EVs such as Honda Kona EV and MG ZS EV. What do you think about this upcoming EV?
