  1. Are car modifications illegal in India?

    First of all aftermarket sunroofs are illegal as installing an aftermarket sunroof can change the structure of your vehicle. Secondly, they can also be a threat to the safety of the occupants of the car. Modifying the roof can put you at a bigger risk if met with a motor accident.

However, removing the catalytic converter or exhaust muffler is a bad idea. Many high-performance exhausts are not approved by the Regional Transport Office and are hence deemed illegal.

  7. What are the RTO formalities and procedures to repaint cars in a different colour?

    First, you have to go to the Road Transport Office nearby with the RC book. You can also take with you a sample of the colour you want to paint your car in. You need a permission letter from the Regional Transport Officer.

    Afterwards, you can get your car painted. Then you have to take the car back to the RTO, fill out some paperwork and pay a small fee. In the RC book, there is a field where the factory colour of the vehicle is given.

    Once you comply with the procedure you can get this changed. Even though it is not illegal to change your car’s colour, you need to notify the RTO first.

  8. How much does it cost to change the colour of a car?

  1. Is it possible to swap 1.5 litre petrol engine of Mauthi or Honda to 1987 model petrol cars in Tamilnadu, Kerala or Karnataka?

      If the garage is skilled enough, any kind of engine swap is possible. Beware, though, this modification might make your car illegal to ply on Indian roads with rectification to the vehicle documents.
