10 Best Selling Cars In December 2020 | Alto Overtakes The Swift

While all of us are glad that 2020 finally came to an end, automakers are happy because they were able to revive the sales to a great extent. With Tata’s hype growing day by day, we expect the home brand to be the top-selling brand in India really soon. For now, we bring to you the top 10 selling cars for December 2020 and as always, Maruti has the majority here too. 7 out of 10 cars are from the Maruti family and that’s not difficult to guess as all of us are now habitual of seeing mileage selling over any other factor in India.

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
   

   

   Taking the lead this time with a close call of just 9 units with the Swift, Alto has grabbed the first place among the top 10 selling cars for the month of December 2020. India’s favourite family hatch sold 18,140 units which comes out to be 17.12% more of what it sold in Dec’19.

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift
   

   

   Lost the throne by just 9 units! Swift stood second this time in the list of top 10 selling cars for December 2020. Maruti’s sporty hatch ended up selling 18,131 units in the last month and has seen a great rise in sales if we compare the number to December 2019. This is really good news as the industry is reviving at a great pace now.

3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
   

   

   The premium hatch from Maruti which is present in the market in two avatars – Baleno and Glanza. Every time we prepare the sales report, we ask you a question, why Glanza is not able to cope up with Baleno’s sales? Leave your thought in the comments section below about Baleno always being in the top 10 and Glanza showing no signs of good sales. For December 2020, Baleno recorded sale of 18,030 units.

4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR
   

   

   The one with the highest YoY growth in our list of Top 10 selling cars in December 2020. WagonR sold 17,684 units and has shown a 64% YoY growth. This tallboy has been among the top sellers in India irrespective of its generations. You would definitely see more than 2 WagonRs around you if you are out on the road. Isn’t it?
   

5. Maruti Dzire
   

   

   Leading the compact sedan segment sales like a boss! Dzire takes the fifth place in our list of top 10 selling cars for December 2020. This sedan rivals the Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Aura. Sadly, none of them has been able to match the sales of the Dzire in the past! We don’t see them selling this high in the near future too. Dzire closed the last month with 13,868 units being sold PAN India.

6. Hyundai Venue
   

   

   No doubt Sonet made it into the headlines for selling record numbers but we guess the craze is now settled after few Kias going on fire (literally). Anyway, Hyundai Venue stood at the sixth place this time among the top-selling cars for December 2020. This Sonet rival sold 12,313 units in the last month which means a 29.32% YoY growth!

7. Maruti Suzuki Brezza
   

   

   We think Maruti made a mistake by launching this car as a diesel-only vehicle in the BS4 era. This is because 2020 has shown us that India loves Brezza no matter what fuel drives it! The BS6 petrol-only version of the Brezza continues to sell in great amounts and for December 2020, Brezza recorded a sale of 12,251 units. This is lesser than what they sold in December 2019 but is still a great number!

8. Maruti Eeco
   

   

   Maruti’s real wonder! The Eeco is always on the list of top-selling cars! For December 2020, this real MPV sold 11,251 units which means a whopping 47.38% YoY growth! Why do you think people are still buying the Eeco? Gaining such a growth in the year of the pandemic when almost all the businesses are trying to revive, Eeco getting such impressive sale is nothing less than a miracle!

9. Hyundai Creta
   

   

   In November 2020, we had the Creta at the 6th place but among the top-selling cars for December 2020, Creta bagged the 9th place. Talking about personal progress, Creta recorded a 57.78% YoY growth which is pretty well and deserves an appreciation despite the SUV getting the 9th place.

10. Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS
    

    

    Last on the list of top 10 selling cars for December 2020, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS sold 10,263 units with a growth of 35.08% in comparison to the December 19 sales. Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS comes packed with a lot of features and the USP still remains the availability of the turbo-petrol variant! What do you think of this Korean hatch? These were the top 10 selling cars for December 2020. While the majority is still held by Maruti which was expected of course but we haven’t seen any other brand in the top 10 than Maruti and Hyundai. Other brands like Kia, Tata, Mahindra and MG are also selling great but there’s definitely something that they need to do in order to match these two brands in the top 10.
