Considering the problems faced by the Indian automotive industry, the couple of top carmakers did witness a sudden downfall. Besides, there are other carmakers that also did extremely well, especially Tata, in the month compared to 2020.     It’s a regular affair for Maruti Suzuki to take the top spot in the number of cars sold. Selling 1,13,851 units in December, the carmaker did take a beating when compared to the car sales in December 2020.

    To be exact, in December 2020, Maruti sold 1,29,539 cars. That 12% negative growth in car sales. There could be multiple reasons of this decline, one being chip shortage.

    This comes as a surprise that the Indian carmaker Tata bagged second place on this list. Overselling one of the best selling carmakers in India is a big achievement for Tata as well as for India, #MadeInIndia.

    With that, the next good news for Tata comes in the form of sales numbers as they are a whopping 50% higher than December 2020. Breaking the 10-year record, Tata sold 35,300 cars in December 2021 versus 23,546 cars in 2020.

  3. Hyundai (32,312 Units)

    The Korean carmaker, Hyundai, had been taking the second position after Maruti Suzuki for many consecutive months and years. But sadly, Tata in December 2021 broke the streak. That said, Hyundai also recorded a 32% decline in car sales from December 2020. In December 2020 they sold 57,400 vehicles in India.

  4. Mahindra (15,338 Units)
