With the Citroen C3 2022’s launch just a month away, the Tata Punch’s reign over the market is all set to be shaken up. And even though Citroen has planned not to call the C3 an “SUV”, it still possesses enough credentials to be called a micro-SUV. But the question remains. How will the C3 do when placed head-on against its key rival; the Tata Punch? Let’s find out.
Dimension
In the world that we live in, constant traffic snarls and limited parking space has now made things like dimension quite relevant. So here’s how both cars stand against each other in terms of dimension.
DIMENSIONS | CITROEN C3 | TATA PUNCH |
LENGTH | 3981 | 3827 |
WIDTH | 1733 | 1742 |
HEIGHT | 1586 | 1615 |
WHEELBASE | 2540 | 2445 |
GROUND CLEARANCE | 180 | 187 |
So as is evident from the head-on comparison, while the C3 will be longer and more spacious in terms of the wheelbase, the Punch will still be the wider and taller choice, with a superb ground clearance of 187. Considering the conditions of Indian roads, we think the Punch takes it here.

Engine
No matter how good a vehicle is, one thing that makes or breaks its success story is its engine. Here’s how both cars compare out in terms of powertrain.
POWERTRAIN | CITROEN C3 | TATA PUNCH | |
ENGINE CUBIC CAPACITY | 1.2 Liters | 1.2 Liters | 1.2 Liters |
ENGINE TYPE | Turbocharged | Naturally Aspirated | Naturally Aspirated |
MAX POWER | 110 PS | 82 PS | 86 PS |
MAX TORQUE | 190 NM | 115 NM | 113 NM |
TRANSMISSION | 6-MT | 5-MT | 5-MT/5-AT |
MILEAGE | 19.4 KMPL | 19.8 KMPL | 18.8 KMPL |
As per what’s known about the C3, the vehicle will offer two 1.2 litre engines both in NA as well as a turbo avatar; something that the Punch completely misses. The C3 however, could or could not offer an automatic transmission on launch, but if it does, it is expected to be a DCT unit, which again the Punch misses on. Even in terms of mileage, the C3 takes it away from the Punch with as much as 19.8 Kmpl on offer as compared to 18.8 kmpl of mileage the Punch offers.

Features
The Tata Punch is truly applauded for its onboard features and comfort. But Citroen too has made tall claims, stating that the vehicle will offer one of the best in segment legroom onboard.
While the entire list of features will fully be revealed in July when the C3 will hit the market, what is known is the fact that the C3 will offer features like 10-inch infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a digital-instrument cluster and USB sockets for both front and rear passengers.
The Punch on the other hand brings in features like 7-inch infotainment with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, a semi-digital instrument cluster, connected car tech (Creative i-RA pack), cruise control, and so on.
The real head-on comparison will be fruitful only when the C3 comes out in full glory, but from what is known, larger infotainment and digital instrument cluster seems like a win for the C3. Stay pinned to the GoMechanic blog where we bring you everything related to the C3’s launch
Price
In terms of pricing, while the Punch is priced between Rs. 5.83 – 9.49 Lakhs, the Citroen C3 could launch with a price anywhere between Rs. 5.5 to 10.5 Lakhs.
The Citroen C3 looks better and is bigger. Just hoping it’s not as overpriced as the Punch.
Fingers Crossed!
