6 Common Problems Reported in the Maruti Alto 800/Alto K10

Maruti Suzuki Alto, India’s favourite hatchback recently crossed 40lakh milestone in terms of sales. No wonder, it has been the top-selling brand in India for over a decade. It was launched back in 2000 and has completed 20 years of affordability. But the affordable hatch too has got some problems, though, not the major ones. So, it’s time for us to take a look at 6 such problems that Maruti Suzuki Alto 800/Alto K10 have faced.

Do note that all these problems have been reported by the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800/Alto K10 owners at our workshops.

  1. Squeaking Sounds from the Front (Only While Driving)

This problem is usually found in low-budget cars. Owners reported that there is a squeaking sound coming from the front part of the car while driving, especially over rough roads. Upon our inspection of such Alto 800/Alto K10, we found out that the suspension has worn out, leading to squeaking sounds from the front.

  2. Squeaking Sounds from the Front (Even At Idle)

This problem was also reported by some of the owners even while the car is at idle. This problem usually arises due to faulty belt tensioner or worn out timing belt. If you hear such sounds while the car is idle/stationary, you must get it checked at the nearest GoMechanic workshop. Or, let me do you one better!

  3. Power windows issues

First of all, Alto gets front power windows only. And our customers reported that after a good 35-40k km on the odometer, power windows start to lag a lot. This is usually encountered due to the dust collection in the assembly. The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800/Alto K10 has a low dust resistance for sure. But hey, you don’t get everything when the budget is restricted.

  4. AC cooling not effective

Top 10 Reasons that your Car AC isn’t Cooling Enough

This is not a very common problem with the Maruti Alto owners. Only a few of our customers reported this issue. The AC cooling becomes ineffective after some time. This problem also arises due to the clogged AC filters. Alto has a small engine and clogged AC can be troublesome for it. So it is highly advised to get your AC serviced as soon as possible. And you know just the right place for that!

  5. Wheel vibrations over 60kmph

Some of you might say that this problem can arise in any car. True! But with maximum owners pointing it out means that it has to be on the list. The wheel vibrations begin to increase as the car speeds over 60kmph. This happens due to the misalignment of wheels, the front ones tend to be more frequent. So, in order to keep your budget hatch running, get the wheels aligned asap.

  6. Engine Lock Up in rainy season

Being a budget hatchback, Alto does lack resistance to dust as well as water-resistance. This leads to hydro locking of engines in the rainy season. Engine lock up light shows up on the instrument cluster. This problem was recently reported in huge number by the Alto owners in this rainy season.

Good for you that you have not faced any issues, but please refrain from speaking for others experiences.

  6. i am using alto k10 since 2010.. first 6-7 year did not faced any issued. but now i am getting many issues with my car. clutch hard issue, bouncy ride.. door noise. power window noise. beside the facts that shockers have been changed and clutch have been replaced from the maruti authorized service center. when goes to mechanic they said there is no issue in the car but as i am driving the same i did not find it like it was few year ago.. last year i visited go mechanic workshop for repair work and my experience was pathetic. don’t know what type of spare they are providing.

  7. maruti alto(800cc) bs6 sensor controlled give difficulty in up hill driving problem. Once stopped cannot be start drive properly. Mechanic says it is sensor related problem .To take the car hand brake is to be applied and then it is to be drived releasing hand brake.

    • Hi,
This problem is not because of the sensor but the engine (less powerful). But to be sure can you further explain the scenario? Like was this problem when the car was full of passenger and with a full load or the car only had a driver?

  8. I own and drive Maruthi alto 800 LXI since April 2014 Did around 69000 kms. No problem at all but currently a small knocking sound while switching on the AC in idle position the sound vanishes once i accelerate the car, think issue with the AC belt will get it changed in the next service. But a great car changed only the tires and Battery once

  9. I purchased Alto 800 VXi a week back.. got tank full. It has run just 200 kms and the tank is already half… it seems the car is giving a lileage of 11.5 Kms per litre.
I am driving cars for more than a decade now so the issue is not of rash driving or excessive use of clutch or breaks.. The drive has been smooth around an average speed of 45-50kms/hr.. I dont know if it will get better or this particular vehicle given to me has an issue.

  10. Hi GoMechanic,

My father owns a 2010 Maruti Suzuki Alto k10 , as the above mentioned problems regarding alto k10, i have faced :

    1. The power window issue , i would like to elaborate , the car was running under 26000 kms , and suddenly one morning i noticed while cleaning the car that the driver side power window isn’t working ( like the glass wasn’t rolling down nor rolling up) , anyways i got it fixed from the service center( the penium gear of the power window was found faulty and i got the whole assembly replaced ).
    2. AC not cooling effectively, I stated to face this problem when the car was around 6 years old from the purchased date , i started to diagnose the related issues but i couldn’t find one, then i visited a car expert and found that the cooling coil got clogged by the dust and grime and started to leak , so i got it fixed from the car expert’s shop and i got the radiator and the condenser cleaned as well and added an AC filter ( which wasn’t provided by the manufacturer ) so till date AC is going great.
    3. Wheel vibrations over 60 kph , again i started to face this problem when the car turned 6 year from the purchase date ( to be honest the car wasn’t serviced regularly and wasn’t maintained regularly ) . After this problem arose i noticed that the tyres started to wear out ( i was unaware of wheel alignment and balancing ) so i got my tyres replaced by higher profile tyres ( also i was unaware of high or low profile tyres ) , to be specific, company provides 155/65 R13 and i got replaced by 145/70 R13 , so after a good research i opted for the wheel alignment and balancing, now it’s going great .

Here comes the critical issue that i’m facing right now very badly :

    4. The mileage problem which turned into a throttle body problem, since the car is 11 years old and running i visited a local mechanic and shared my problem , he advised to get the throttle body cleaned asap and i allowed him to do so, the throttle body of my car was opened from the manifold and was cleaned ( like to mention that the injectors were cleaned too) the car performed well for a couple of weeks and i started to face problems regarding RPM , the RPM became very unstable , sometimes it rises to 2000 rpms while sometimes it sits to 700 rpms and it is very unstable with AC ( feels like the car is being pulled from the back) so after researching online i tried to mess up with the throttle body and i got stucked with the sensors adjustment, finding that the IAC valve isn’t working as it supposed to be and i was unable to adjust the IAC valve sensor as well as the TP sensor and i didn’t have enough knowledge . Also i purchased a local OBD scanner but it wasn’t too helpful.

So my question is that how can i get it fixed ? Like if you can help me out with the sensor adjustment by the appropriate voltage values, I’ll be very much grateful to the GoMechanic team . Please help me out , it’s a humble request to you.

  11. I am using alto k10 since 2015. I was face engine lock up problem so many time in rainy season. and also facing pickup issue. even My engine RPM also up down automatically some time even while i drive constant speed. And these issue i really facing in my alto k10 and no one instruct me for post this issue. this is my actual experience.

  12. I’m getting the 5th number issue in Alto 800. These problems are with New Alto 800 models. While driving if speed increases to 60 KMPH and speed decreases from 80 KMPH then vibration begins. I visit in the maruti service centre but they do not have any solution for this. I purchased vehicle on 05/08/2022. Totally money wasted.
