Coronavirus- Maruti STOPS production at Gurugram & Manesar Plant

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has finally decided to take some action amidst the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak by announcing to suspend its production at their Gurugram and Manesar factories along with its on-going research and development program at the company’s Rohtak plant has also been terminated due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to a senior company official, ‘The government policy now requires closure of production and accordingly the company has taken a decision on production closure. The company will shut production and office operations at its facilities in Gurugram and Manesar, Haryana, with immediate effect till further notice. The research and development centre at Rohtak will also remain closed. The duration of this shutdown will depend upon government policy’

However, the company failed to mention any steps being taken for its Gujrat based facility owned by Suzuki Motors an independent facility registered under the Suzuki Motor Corp.

With the number of people infected with the deadly Coronavirus increasing day by day, all leading carmakers have decided to suspend their respective manufacturing capacities in order to protect their respective factory staff and to eventually comply with both government segments to ensure social distancing.

Joining this movement Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India Pvt Ltd, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd, have also decided to suspend production for the same. According to a regulatory filing by Mahindra & Mahindra they have stated “In light of heightened concern on spread of coronaVirus in Maharashtra, we have decided to suspend the manufacturing operations at our Nagpur plant with immediate effect and Chakan (Pune) and Kandivali (Mumbai) from Monday night onwards. None of the plants are working on Sunday, March 22, 2020,
