Is this the new Hyundai Creta EV?

Is Hyundai actually working on a Creta-based EV for India? A few days back this was the primary question in everybody’s minds and the Korean carmaker has finally decided to answer it. A semi-camouflaged unit of an electrified Hyundai Creta has been spied being tested on Indian roads.

Ok, so how are we so sure that this could have been the Hyundai Creta EV? Well, the answer to this question is that the test mule was seen sporting an additional supporting brace for the floor-mounted battery pack. Which to our knowledge indicates that it could be powered by a battery.

Another reason cited by media reports for the test mule of the Creta to be an EV is that it was spotted near an EV Charging station. Quite fascinating isn’t it?

  • Rumours also suggest that this project has been codenamed- SU2i EV
  • Looking at its physical self, the EV will resemble the likes of its ICE cousin
  • It is also very likely that it will be based on the same platform used for its ICE version
  • We suspect that the new Creta EV will borrow its powertrain from the Hyundai Kona
  • Hyundai also plans to locally manufacture its E-GMP platform which underpins the recently launched Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV.
  • The all-new Hyundai Creta EV is expected to make its debut by mid-2025
  • With its launch, the upcoming EV will lock horns with the MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon, BYD Atto 3 and its cousin the Hyundai Kona EV.

Is this just a marketing gimmick or is Hyundai actually planning to launch the Creta EV? Do let us know in the comment section below.
