India is all set to switch to world’s cleanest petrol and diesel from April 1 as the country will leap into Euro-VI compliant fuel from Euro-IV grade. This an achievement as India has done this in a span of 3 years. None of the large economies across the world has seen this change in such a short span.
The new fuel powering the Indian vehicles will have just 10PPM of Sulphur. 10 Parts Per Million will let the petrol and diesel be the cleanest in the world as of now. This will surely help reduce pollution which is responsible for choking many cities. India will now be among the countries which have the cleanest fuel on earth.
Sanjiv Singh, Chairman of Indian Oil Corp (IOC) said “We are absolutely on track for supplying BS-VI fuel from April 1. Almost all refineries have begun supplying BS-VI fuel and the same has reached storage depots across the country,” He further added that they have already started producing low sulphur fuel when 2019 came to an end. They will be able to replace each and every drop of the fuel in India with this cleanest petrol and diesel by April 2020.

“It was a conscious decision to leapfrog to BS-VI as first upgrading to BS-V and then shifting to BS-VI would have prolonged the journey to 4 to 6 years. Besides, oil refineries, as well as automobile manufacturers, would have had to make investments twice – first to producing BS-V grade fuel and engines and then BS-VI ones,” he said.

State-owned oil refineries have spent around 35,000Cr in upgrading the refineries to produce the low sulphur fuel. This fuel is being claimed as the cleanest petrol or diesel as the emissions done by the fuel will be as good as CNG does and will not harm the environment at all.
