International Spec Full-Size SUVs We Would Love To See In India

We have been living in a trend where the SUVs occupies top tier in the shopper’s wishlist. This prominent not only in India but also in the leading international markets like The USA. Because of this there is no denying that they get the gold standard vehicles.

So, here are 10 such mouth-watering SUVs that we crave for. Also, these are the SUVs that come loaded up to the brim when it comes to safety and features.

Note: The prices mentioned are tentative and are straight conversion into INR. Also, the prices do not include the import duties and conversion charges.

  1. Chevrolet Tahoe (₹36,27,802)

Possibly the best SUV money can buy is the Chevrolet Tahoe, well in the US market. This is why Chevrolet Tahoe is among the top-selling full-size SUV out there. The Tahoe offers the right balance between the vehicle’s price and size. Also, it has a really good road presence.

Expecting that it’ll come to India is in itself a dream as it gets the engine that we only have heard about. It is a 5.3-litre V8 motor pushing a whopping 355hp of max power. Also, this is the standard engine that comes with the Tahoe, it also gets a more powerful and bigger V8 motor.

  2. Ford Expedition (₹37,01,839)

Every vehicle has its own forte here with Ford Expedition it is the size and space on the inside. For reference, the Expedition is indeed justified its name as it can haul 8 people on board along with their luggage. The vehicle comes in 2 configurations, a standard version and a long wheelbase opening up a lot of space inside.

Now, let us talk power. Expectations are sometimes not deceiving as the Ford Expedition flaunts a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that churns 375hp of max power. When it comes to the transmission, the powerful motor comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This puts the power down to all the 4 wheels (Option) of the huge SUV.

  3. Nissan Armada (₹35,16,748)

The Japanese carmaker Nissan sure has a couple of SUVs in the Indian market but they come nowhere close to the big and brawny Armada (International Spec). Well, having driven a Nissan Kicks we are sure that they know how to exactly make SUVs. PS. They drive like a dream. More on that some other day let’s stick to Nissan Armada.

Considering its rivals Armada too gets 3 rows of seats all of which are no less than a sofa. But the real deal comes under the hood. Powering this huge vehicle is a 5.6-litre V8 that boasts of 400hp of max power. Surely this is not gonna feel underpowered. Besides this too gets a 4X4 but as an option.

  4. Chevrolet Suburban (₹38,27,702)

People who want to go on unknown off-road trails with a little compromise (mind it just a little) choose Chevrolet Suburban. This monstrous Suburban gets large wheel arches that add the width to the vehicle also boasting of huge 22-inch wheels. Besides, there is an option to go the off-road package that gives the Chevrolet Suburban extra marks.

With that this not so ordinary SUV screams elegance when cruising out on the highway. Talking of cruising, a humongous 5.3-litre V8 comes standard that offers 355hp. Well, there also is an option to go for gigantic 6.3-litre V8 motor pushing a whopping 420hp. Also, the superior engine can propel this hefty vehicle from 0-100 in just 6.2 seconds.

  5. Toyota Sequoia (₹37,09,243)

If reliability is a priority, Toyota is the first brand that pops up in our heads. Well, entering in this list from the Japanese brand is the Toyota Sequoia. This is the family move that does not excel in anything but offers the things that are necessary. This includes an average interior and average built quality.

The engine is where the vehicle scores. Powering this Toyota is a power full (comparing with India) 5.7-litre V8. This engine pushes 381 hp of max power and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

  6. Chevrolet Traverse (₹38,27,702/-)

Sadly, Chevrolet is no more in India but we really want it back to our shores. Chevy is a car manufacturer that is superior in making SUVs, not just simple SUVs but monstrous. Carrying forward the SUV trend Chevrolet Transverse is one of the full-size SUVs that not just looks good but also feels and drives good. On the outside, the minimal design on a big car surely gives the vehicle the added smoothness.

Chevrolet Transverse also does not disappoint when it comes to the powertrain. Speaking of which the Transverse speaks of a decent 3.6-litre V6 engine pushing 310hp of max power. Well, numbers are not always everything as this SUV is fairly competitive when it comes to price.

  7. Ford Explorer (₹23,80,700/-)

In terms of sales, Ford Explorer is one of the top contenders in full-size SUVs in the international market. A piece of this delicious cake would really tip the charts here in India if it comes to our shores. The Explorer has the right mindset in terms of design and we India will surely not mind spending a little extra.

Ford is known for its low capacity yet powerful turbo petrol engine and the Explorer also gets a piece. A 2.3-litre turbocharged engine producing 300hp of max power is standard in the vehicle. For those seeking extra oomph, Ford has a 3.0-litre V6 that generates a mind-blowing 400hp of max power.

  8. Honda Pilot (₹23,35,900/-)

A car that sits low on the popularity scale is the Honda Pilot. Describing the vehicle is a bit tough as it sits somewhere in between a full-size SUV and an MPV (Minivan). This makes this vehicle a little more pocket friendly with not compromising on the features. But where Honda Pilot does compromise is the space in the 3rd row.

Okay, it is not that cramped and an average Indian adult will be comfortable for a drive of 100 off kilometres. Kilometres remains me of its USP which is a refines and a fuel-efficient petrol engine. It is a 3.5-litre V6 motor pushing a max of 280hp that powers the Honda Pilot. Also, this engine comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with an option of a 9-speed gearbox.

  9. Toyota Highlander Hybrid (₹25,18,950/-)

    Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Alright, the critics have no effect on this carmaker as they are known for having really big front grills, and the Toyota Highlander is no different. So, driving little into future this SUV is Hybrid. This means the SUV is light on emissions as well as heavy on power and assist. But being a hybrid it is not so light on our pockets. At least it checks the right boxes when it comes to exhaust emissions. Nevertheless, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a sharp-looking SUV with edgy design and decent road presence.

Let’s refer to the best part, the powertrain. A combination of a gasoline-powered engine and a motor with a CVT gearbox completes the powertrain. The engine is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder unit that with two electric motors produces 243hp. On paper, the numbers are not mouth-watering but in the real world the SUV clocks 100kmph from standing still in under 7 seconds.

  10. Ford Bronco (₹20,99,650/-)

    Ford Bronco
    Ford Bronco

Possibly one of the best (If not the best) SUV to go wandering into the wild is recently launched Ford Bronco. The go-anywhere SUV Bronco in the current generation gets retro styling coupled with almost all the modern features, just like the Mahindra Thar (No immediate comparison though). The aesthetics of the beast says everything, that the vehicle is built to last and also can go anywhere. So much so, the interior boasts of a waterproof dash, including the infotainment system and the instrument cluster.

Again, like the Thar, Bronco is offered with a couple of configuration, a hardtop or a soft-top convertible. Powering this adventurous SUV is a 2.3-litre 4 cylinder motor producing 270hp of max power. There also exists a more powerful engine that is a 2.7-litre V6 that is capable of producing 310hp. To keep the driving enthusiasts at bay Ford Bronco gets a 7-speed manual transmission with the smaller engine. With that, a 10-speed automatic also is an option.

Ironically the top-selling and best SUVs from outside India is from a manufacturer that has wrapped up its business from India. So, these are the SUVs we wish came to our shores. Do let us know which one is your favourite?
