Jeep has been India’s most trusted brand after it received much love from its entry-level SUV, Compass. The American SUV maker has been secretly testing its upcoming model in India over the past year. The upcoming model is a 7-seater SUV named Meridian, built on the company’s best-selling model Compass’ platform.
Stellantis India, CEO & Managing director Roland Bouchara said that “the Jeep brand, recognized globally for its capable SUVs, has been legendary in India. The company hopes to build on this with the Jeep Meridian”.
Jeep India Head, Nipun J Mahajan, said that “the Meridian had been taken on a journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, covering almost 5000kms. The Meridian has been tested for its performance, engineering, build quality, capability and various other parameters”, he added.
The Jeep Meridian has been tested along the meridian 77 in India that traversed all through from the North of the nation to the down South, covering up all terrains, roads and forests. Despite being built upon the Compass platform, the 7-seater inspires the Grand Cherokee’s design.
Jeep Meridian Interior and Exterior
Since it will be designed as a larger SUV, we may expect a longer wheelbase with a more rear overhang and enough room for reasonable boot space. As we can see from the teaser, more oversized doors let you enter and get out with many conveniences. Apart from all these attributes, Meridian also borrows design cues such as flat and elongated bonnet, wide headlamps, sleek side profiles from its big brother. On the inside, the SUV may get the identical design as we see on the Compass.
Jeep Meridian Engine
The powerhouse will be retained from the current model but tuned to develop more power. 9-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive is also expected as a standard feature list, and the equipment too.
Jeep India is planning to launch its three-row SUV in mid-2022. Specifications and pricing of the car will be announced close to launch.
