Yes, KIA finally revealed the Carens in a media launch on 16th December 2021. We have been waiting for the Korean automaker to launch this MPV n India for quite some time now. Ever since the Hyundai Alcazar was launched, everyone has been waiting for KIA’s version of the same. Today let’s see what the KIA Carens has in store for us!

Design
The KIA Carens follows a sleek and clean design language throughout the exterior. The front looks particularly clean, almost like it’s an electric car. KIA has surely come with the “Minimalist with attention to Detail” approach with the Carens’ design. The lights, both at the front and the rear are sharp-looking, and they blend in with the body flawlessly. The wheels are 16-inchers, sadly enough. A set of 17-inchers would have looked pretty good on the KIA Carens.

Features on the KIA Carens
The Carens gets all the features the Seltos gets, plus some more. It gets a BOSE sound system, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a digital driver’s display and an air-purifier as well. Front sensors and a 360-degree parking camera is also part of the package. The Carens also gets 64 colour ambient lighting for the cabin, nice! Sadly enough, the KIA Carens does not get a full-panoramic sunroof. It does get a regular-sized sunroof though.

What’s more in the KIA Carens?
Essentially, Space. The Carens is basically the 7-seater version of the KIA Seltos. It will be available in both 6 and 7-seater configurations. KIA claims that the Carens has the longest wheelbase in the segment, making it the most spacious one. Official figures on wheelbase, length and ground clearance haven’t been revealed yet.

Engines
Well, we all guessed it right, the Carens will share its engines with the Seltos. These include a 1.5L NA Petrol (115HP and 144nm), a 1.4L turbo-petrol (138HP and 242nm) and a 1.5L Diesel (115HP and 250nm). All these engines come with different gearbox options. The NA petrol gets a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The 1.4L turbo-petrol gets a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5L diesel gets a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter.

Pricing and Competition
The Carens is expected to be priced similar to how the Alcazar is priced. Depending on what variant you choose, the new Korean MPV will set you back anywhere between Rs.16-20 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The primary competition for the Carens will be the Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus.
