Maruti Suzuki, a brand that every Indian can rely on. It has been one of the prominent carmakers in Indian automotive history. From the past 3 decades, it has been the largest carmaker in our country. And with the advancement in technology, people have started demanding cars that are easier to operate. One such advancement is the automatic cars, a segment which has picked up a great pace in the country. Maruti Suzuki has got a line up of automatic cars. But first, let’s take a look at what all transmission options does the automaker provide.
Automatic Gear Shift or The AGS
It is nothing but Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed Automated Manual Transmission. The first car from the carmaker to have the AGS was the Celerio. AGS constituted about 40% of the sales of Celerio at that time. AGS uses an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator which takes on the control of clutch as well as the gear shifting in a car, giving the user a complete two-pedal convenient experience. Currently, 6 cars from Maruti Suzuki have this automatic transmission as an option.
Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT
CVT has been recently offered by Maruti Suzuki. The infinite number of gear ratios puts it at the top of the 3 transmission options offered by the carmaker. CVT or continuously variable transmission employs the use of belts and pulleys to have an infinite gear ratio. The more gear ratio available the smoother and more efficient something is. And it is fuel-efficient.

Automatic Transmission (Torque Converter)
The old school transmission and one of the most trusted by the carmaker. The 4-speed Torque Converter is offered across a wide range of cars by Maruti Suzuki. Truly automatic transmission and is one of the smoothest transmission. Some might think that the 4-speed will restrict the engine performance, but believe me, it is quite the opposite. A great transmission for a city drive as well as the highway.

Hi Utkarsh,
How reliable is the Torque Convertor transmission in long term? How long will it last before it needs some attention(km/years)?
Hi Dheeraj,
Torque Converter is that automatic transmission which is built like a tank. Unlike the DCT and CVT, you can extract more life out of a torque converter automatic transmission when used with care. But the only downside of this AT is the fuel economy, which is fairly poor. Hope it helped. Stay Pinned! 🙂
