Modified Maruti Suzuki Zen | Certified India’s Loudest

People ask Sriniketh why he is not playing music in his Zen. He revs the engine and tells them he has better things to listen to. In this edition of Sriniketh’s cars, we discuss a modified Maruti Suzuki Zen, India’s loudest Zen. But that’s not all that is interesting about his Zen. It has been heavily modified, and the results are just fantastic. Have a look at the details.

The Maruti Suzuki Zen in the stock form came with a 1.0-litre engine that used to churn out around 58hp of power and a peak torque of around 78Nm.

Sriniketh swapped this engine with a 1.6-litre engine from Maruti Suzuki Baleno with the cylinder head from Esteem. Now that’s one hell of a job here. The Baleno’s engine in stock form is already capable of producing over 92hp of power and a torque nearing 130Nm. Sriniketh has added a lot to this engine too, which makes it able to produce 110hp of power. And this Zen can go from 0 to 100kmph in less than 9 seconds.

Sriniketh has added many mods to this car to make things more interesting. This Zen has a free-flow exhaust system, fully custom-made. To ensure that the engine breathes better, he has replaced the stock air filter with a K&N air filter.

The bigger throttle body

The throttle body, exhaust and intake ports have been ported and polished for better performance. For ignition purposes, Sriniketh has used NGK iridium spark plugs known for high efficiency. With great power comes great responsibility. And to cater to this responsibility, this Zen has been equipped with bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump.

To control all this, a piggyback ECU has been added. A heavy-duty clutch from Excedy has been installed. And to ensure that this powerful and loudest Zen is unstoppable, EBC brake pads have been installed too. Sriniketh uses high-octane fuel to get the maximum out of his beast.

But wait! there’s more.

That was just the part where mods made the car powerful. But what about the other mods? To comply with the power, the body needs to be ready too. Sriniketh has made sure to reinforce the chassis. The suspension has also been stiffened.

This modified Zen looks great, too, with the custom silky silver job paint, aluminium spoiler, chrome detailing and LED tail lamps. 165/65 R13 Yokohama tyres have replaced the stock ones.

What about the interior?

No! Sriniketh has made major modifications to the interior of this Maruti Suzuki Zen. For starters, the stock 2-spoke steering has been replaced by a 3-spoke Momo steering wheel. The gear knob has also been sourced from Momo. There is a 2-step Type R tachometer on the dash now. Another major modification is at the dashboard’s centre, where you can see some switches. This panel is a custom toggle switch panel. And, in case, Sriniketh wants to listen to something other than the loud exhaust notes, he has a Sony music system. The interior panels are made from hydro-dipped carbon fibre.

What was the cost of these modifications?

According to Sriniketh, this modification has cost him around ₹3 lakh, which does not include the cost of the car.
