Renault Planning To Enter The Compact SUV Segment?

Renault has finally made a comeback in the Indian market with the launch of their sub-4 metre MPV- the Triber. After the grand success of this extremely innovative product, Renault plans to enter the compact SUV segment as well. All of us know that this segment is quite congested as of now and has got a lot of competition. Maruti has got the Brezza, Hyundai has got the Venue and of course, Tata Nexon has already done great in terms of sales. FYI, Nexon is the only Indian car to get a 5-star NCAP rating!

Renault’s compact SUV is planned to be launched in India in late 2020. Renault has named it as the HBC Compact SUV for now. We will see if there are any name changes in the near future. Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO and MD, Renault India Operations, said, “We want to work 360 degrees on the Triber. This will be our focus on the first six months of next year. Then, we will be launching a new, sub-four-metre SUV in 2020.”

Update: Renault To Discontinue Lodgy, Diesel Engines To Be Axed Too!

Renault’s compact SUV will be built on Renault-Nissan’s CMF- A+ platform. Though the upcoming HBC compact SUV will borrow heavily from the Triber, it will also sport a unique design. It will sport an SUV like stance. On the inside, Renault has decided to keep things common between the Triber and their new sub-4-metre SUV. Most probably the compact SUV will be a 5-seater and won’t have the innovative third seat layout like the Triber. We can expect the Renault compact SUV to be pretty spacious for its class.

Voila! Renault Now Exporting Triber From India! 600 Units Exported Till Date

As per the reports, Renault’s compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. This will be a 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine currently codenamed ‘HR10’. The only limitation with Renault’s CMF-A+ platform is that Renault will be able to put a 3-cylinder engine in its compact SUV but on the other hand, they can carve more space in the interior. More space can definitely prove to be a plus point when this car hits the market. We can definitely expect a close competition!
