The youngest and the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of the UK has been the talk of the town ever since he’s taken up the office. While, Rishi’s appointment as the PM of the UK is quite a symbolic moment for India, considering that the country once colonized our great nation, as interesting as Sunak’s appointment is his ride; the Range Rover. As is the custom, the new PM of the UK rode down to 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace on Tuesday on his Range Rover SUV; which will be Sunak’s official vehicle as long as he serves the post. Much like Sunak, his wheels also have an interesting history, as the British brand which was once on the verge of collapsing was revived by none other than our very own Tata Motors.
The Range Rover used by Rishi Sunak is part of his official fleet. This custom-built bulletproof Range Rover was included in the fleet by Boris Johnson during his tenure and now will be used by Sunak. Going into the details the vehicle is the Range Rover Abio Senital SUV that is custom-built by the manufacturer to withstand the most brutal attacks including penetration by 7.62 mm high-velocity bullets, along with protection from as much as 33 lbs. of TNT blast and DM51 grenade both from above and below.
The SUV also offers several other high-level safety features such as armoured privacy glass, tamper-proof exhaust, and an escape chamber. Along with that, the vehicle can comfortably seat seven with as many as 9 USB ports, Wifi connection for up to 8 devices, Intelligent Fold Technology for seats and a few other goodies that are classified.
Hand-built by Range Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Division at Oxford Road facility, the special ministerial Range Rover Sentinel is juiced by a 380bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that replaces the earlier V6 helping the SUV to now sprint from 0-100kmph in around 10 seconds.
