Tata has finally unveiled the turbo version of their gold standard hatchback, Altroz. Not much new on the inside as well as the outside, this Altroz, that Tata calls iTurbo is a whole new game under the hood. But, iTurbo is going to be put against the segment leader from a long time, the Hyundai i20. And the premium hatchback also comes with a turbocharged petrol unit. So, does it have what it takes to dethrone a king in its turbo avatar? Let’s find out.

Fuel Mileage | 18.3kmpl | 20.28kmpl |

So, the Hyundai i20 is a clear winner here as there is no figure in the comparison that an beat the premium hatchback. But wait, that 0 to 100 seems to dictate a whole different story, right? Although the Altroz is heavier and less powerful than the i20, when it comes to time taken for 0 to 100 sprint, Altroz iTurbo does it better.
There’s one thing worth noticing, the transmission options as Tata has given no automatic, yet again whereas, when it comes to i20, there is no fully manual transmission. Also, the DCT offered at the i20 is the best of automatics you can get. Overall, the Hyundai i20 seems to be a better performing car in the comparo. But, there’s much more to the comparison.

Verdict | Which ‘i” to choose?
Well, we are not done with the comparison yet because Tata Altroz is yet to reveal the pricing of iTurbo Altroz. The current XT variant of Altroz is priced at ₹6,99,000 and even if the iTurbo variant comes at an extra premium of ₹1,00,000, it still around ₹60,000 shy of the base model of i20 offering turbo engine. So, this might make a good selling point for Altroz iTurbo. Rest, the time will tell.
