Why hybrid?
Well, Indians are not yet comfortable with the idea of having an all-electric car. The range anxiety is still a big deal for most of us. However, we still want to save costs on fuel, so Hybrid is the answer. With the Nexon Hybrid, Tata wants to cater to precisely these buyers who want a middle-ground between an EV and an ICE.

Why only the Nexon Hybrid?
Well, we believe that Tata chose the Nexon for this project because it is one of their best-selling cars. They have already experimented on the Nexon with the all-electric variant, and it has done pretty well, so this looks like the safest car for Tata to perform some more experiments on! In India, sub-compact SUVs are selling like hotcakes and there aren’t many hybrid options. With the hybrid variant, the Nexon will be available in a magnitude of options- petrol, diesel, hybrid and EV! This will help Tata cater to a much larger audience.

The Nexon Hybrid will be priced slightly above the ICE variants, but hopefully, it will be much cheaper than the Nexon EV. Its primary competition will be the Vitara Brezza that comes with a mild-hybrid SHVS system. The hybrid module is expected to be tuned to the same 3-cylinder, 1.2L petrol engine that makes 120HP and 170nm of torque. It will be interesting to see how the Nexon Hybrid performs with the added battery!
