It is natural to get confused between the Tata Gravitas and the Tata Safari. Because both of them are indeed the same thing. The recent instagram teaser from the Indian carmaker Tata has confirmed that the 7/8 seater SUV will be named after the icon Safari and not Gravitas.
The Gravitas, or rather Tata Safari will probably go on sale from 26th January 2021.
Tata Gravitas (New Safari) was first showcased at the world’s largest car show in Geneva back in 2019. And later we saw a glimpse of the engineered render of Tata Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020 in India.
What will Be Changes in New Tata Safari VS the Tata Harrier?
Well, we have seen a lot of renders digital and engineered both. So by now, one thing is clear that like the Harrier, new Tata Safari will be based on the Discovery’s platform. This means it’ll be safe, tough and have the perfect road presence like the old Safari.
- Staring the vehicle from the front, it could be hard to distinguish between Harrier and the Safari as both look identical.
- It is the rear section that is a little extended to accommodate the 3rd row of seats. This is what the Safari has always been, a people’s haulier.
- But this time around, the new Tata Safari will miss on the swinging door type tail-gate and instead will be getting the traditional lift up boot lid.
- Also, we can expect the new Safari to get the spare wheel mounted underneath the vehicle versus on the tailgate, like the Safari Dicor.
- On the inside, we assume that the Safari will carry the same interiors as the Harrier but with changes in the colour scheme.
What Can We Expect Under the Hood?
Like said before Safari will be based on the on-going Tata Harrier. Hence it’ll likely be coming with the Fiat-sourced Kryotec 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine.
- This diesel motor is capable of generating 170hp and 350Nm of peak torque.
- This gem engine will likely come with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AT (Torque Converter).
- Like the previous Tata Safari, the new might also get a 4×4 drivetrain in the future. But as of now, this is just a speculation.
Will the Prices Be Mouth Watering?
Tata is known to price their cars aggressively, this is so evident as the current company’s flagship vehicle Tata Harrier starts at ₹13.84 lakhs and goes all the way up to ₹20.30 lakhs (ex-Showroom). Obviously, the Safari will witness a slight gain in price over the Harrier, but by how much? Well, this is the question that will be cleared on 26th Jan 2021.
