5 Ways To Get The Most Mileage Out Of Your Car!

Mileage has increasingly become one of the most important aspects of a car. With fuel prices rising day by day, having a fuel-efficient car has become imperative. But, not all cars are super high on mileage, but we can make them! Here are 5 ways to get the most mileage out of your car!

  1. Timely Upshifts

We all have a certain connection to the cars we drive. Well, then we should listen to it too. The easiest way to know when to upshift is by listening to your engine. Simply, move up to the next gear when you feel like the engine is asking for it. This might get difficult in noisy surroundings, well, that’s why we have the RPM meter. Upshifting between 1800 – 2000 RPM is one of the best ways to get the most mileage out of your car.

  2. Keep your foot off the Clutch!

Many people have the habit of keeping their left foot on the clutch at all times. This may seem harmless but even if the clutch is ever so slightly engaged, it will result in higher fuel consumption. Driving with an engaged clutch is also bad for your clutch’s life, but GoMechanic has that covered for you, so just focus on the mileage!

  3. Avoid Aggressive Acceleration

Most of our cars are driven in the cities where sudden bouts of acceleration are not required, then why do it? Keep calm, and keep your car calm! Sudden aggressive acceleration in any gear of speed will make the engine drink up more and more fuel to give you that speed you want. The RPM will never stay constant and the engine will always want more fuel.

  4. Avoid Sudden Braking

This is an uncommon point in ways to get the most mileage out of your car. See, when you suddenly decelerate, the engine RPMs fall drastically while being in a higher gear. Firstly, this itself increases fuel consumption, but when you speed up again, the engine drinks up even more fuel than it consumed while braking! This results in a loss of fuel both while braking and while re-accelerating. Of course, emergency braking is unavoidable, but traffic lights, speed breakers, and other halts can be planned a couple of meters in advance and you can ensure that your car come sot a smooth halt.

  5. Use your Driving Modes Smartly

Driving in the eco mode in the city or highways is amazing, you get just enough power and good enough mileage. But, there are a few instances where you can be smarter with mode selection. What driving modes essentially do is reduce or increase the maximum output of your engine. So when you drive up a hill in eco mode, the max power might just be too less for the car to climb. It will result in the engine working harder than it should, and this will result in more fuel consumption. Keeping your car in normal/city modes or even sport mode while driving up a hill will actually be less stressful on your engine!
