Maruti Suzuki finally launched the 2022 Baleno yesterday! It looks better, feels better and is much safer than the previous model. The Baleno primarily competes with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Today, let’s dig deeper into this 2022 Baleno VS rivals comparison!

The Baleno is certainly not the largest car in the segment. However, in real life, it does offer more cabin space than the largest car, the i20. The i20 is however wider than the Baleno. So the Baleno offers better leg space, and the i20 offers more door-to-door space. The Honda Jazz is surprisingly the roomiest car in the segment (in real life). The higher up roof also makes it feel airier, and the beige interiors also help it look bigger inside.

Features
The Baleno and the i20 are certainly the most feature-loaded cars in this segment. The Baleno does get extra points for the 360-Degree camera and the heads-up display. However, it misses out on a feature we all crave for, the Sunroof. The i20 and the Jazz are the only cars that currently offer a sunroof in this segment.

Engines
The Baleno gets only one engine option- a 1.2L Petrol that makes 90HP and 113nm. When compared to other naturally aspirated engines in the segment, Baleno’s is the most powerful. However, all the other cars (except for Jazz) get the option of a turbo petrol engine as well. Coming to gearbox options, the Baleno gets a 5-Speed Manual/AMT gearbox. The i20 gets 4 gearbox options- a 7- Speed DCT, a CVT, an iMT and a 5-Speed Manual. The Jazz also gets either a 5-Speed Manual or a CVT gearbox. The Polo is the only car here with a 6-Speed transmission mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox. The Altroz doesn’t have an automatic option yet.

Design
As we always say, looks are a personal choice. But still, we must say that the Altroz is certainly the better-looking car in this lot. The 2022 Baleno does come in a close second position. The lighting set-up on the Baleno has been revised and it has ramped up it looks quite significantly. It also looks much more aggressive than the previous generation.

Price
The most important point in the 2022 Baleno VS rivals comparison! The Baleno is not the cheapest car here, but it is cheaper than its previous model.
Baleno | i20 | Altroz | Jazz | Polo | |
Price Range | Rs.6.35L-Rs.9.49L | Rs.6.98L-Rs.11.32L | Rs.6L-Rs.9.4L | Rs.7.71L-Rs.9.95L | Rs.6.55L-Rs.10.25L |
