  1. Kia Sonet

Kia plans to enter the sub-4 metre SUV segment in India by bringing in the Sonet. The Sonet concept was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and was appreciated by many. The Sonet stands first in the list of upcoming Kia cars because it grabbed many eyeballs at the expo. Kia plans to compete in a new segment by launching this SUV in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is currently the largest selling car in this segment and Kia plans to give it a tough competition. Other sub-4-metre SUVs include the Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Honda WR-V. The Sonet looks quite promising for the Indian market by what Kia has revealed until now. We can expect the Sonet to be launched by August 2020. Further, we can expect an 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, a 125PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit and a detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine to power the new SUV.

  2. Kia Rio

The hatchback segment is also yet to be explored by Kia in India. A hatchback is also there among the upcoming Kia cars in India. Kia plans to try their hand among the Indian hatches by introducing the Rio. Kia Rio is a premium hatch developed by the Korean automaker which is currently in production in many countries other than India. Talking of the price range, Rio will come under the price segment of 6-8 lakhs which is a really popular segment here in India. This is because the range is quite affordable and people prefer hatchbacks considering the city traffic also. Kia Rio is expected to arrive here by June 2020. This will have a 1.6-litre, in-line 4-cylinder petrol motor that generates 130PS of power and 161Nm of torque. This will compete against Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the newly launched Tata Altroz.

Kia Stinger is built on the same chassis unit used in Hyundai’s Genesis. Kia Stinger GT 2018 features LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, a tiger-nose grille and wide air dams on the front bumper with vertical air intakes on either side. There are 3 engine variants currently available. There is a 244bhp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol, a 197bhp, 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and the higher capacity 365bhp, 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol unit. With all the automakers planning the electric future, Kia is also ready for the competition. Kia displayed the Soul EV and reports suggest that this EV has made it into the list of upcoming Kia cars in India. The design of the new car retains the classic boxy styling while updating the front and rear profile a bit from the earlier international variant. The car houses a 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and manages a claimed travel range of 450km. Although Kia has not given any timeline for this one because the charging station availability still remains a challenge in India. We hope Kia will come out with a solution really soon.
