2020 Honda Jazz skips the Diesel! BS6 Petrol Engine Only

Honda Car India Limited is working on introducing the BS6 Compliant Jazz in the Indian market. In a recent report, it has been revealed that the 2020 BS6 Honda Jazz will ditch the 1.5-litre diesel and will only come with a 1.2-litre BS6 Compliant Petrol engine. Subtle cosmetic changes will also follow on the 2020 Honda Jazz.

The current-generation Honda Jazz comes with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2-petrol is equipped with a 5-speed manual and a CVT whereas, the 1.5-litre diesel only comes with a 6-speed manual.

In a statement to Autocar India, Mr Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales for HCIL said, “During 2019-20, HCIL’s overall sales contribution was almost 80 per cent from petrol and 20 per cent from diesel, but this trend differed in each of the product segments. Although there is an increasing shift in market preference towards petrol, we believe that the demand for diesel will not vanish immediately. Hence, in our BS6 line-up, we have strategically decided to offer diesel models in specific segments in line with our customer’s preference. For example, among our three product offerings in the sub-four-metre segment, diesel contribution in WR-V and Amaze was quite significant and hence they are being offered in both petrol and diesel. On the other hand, customers for the premium hatchback Jazz are increasingly opting for the petrol model, and hence the new Jazz will be offered in petrol variants only”

The 2020 version of the Honda Jazz is expected to remain pretty much unchanged apart from a few subtle changes like LED headlamps and of course a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine.

Speaking on the certain launch of the 2020 Honda Jazz, Mr Rajesh Goel said, “As per our model refreshment plan, the launch of refreshed BS6 Jazz is some time away,”

The Honda Jazz goes against the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the recently launched Tata Altroz which has an advantage over the Jazz (and the Baleno and i20) with its BS6 compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine.
