The ugly truth, Ford is another American carmaker to exit the Indian market. After the exit of Chevrolet and Harley Davidson, it seems there is something seriously wrong with the Indian Automotive market. That said, as Ford announced the exit from India, there are huge discounts on the existing cars in the showrooms and in the company’s inventory. Now, this brings us to the question, should you buy a car from Ford at heavy discounts?
Before we answer the question, first let us know what do you feel? Will you go for the discounted price of the cars from Ford?
Should you buy a Ford now?
To begin with, Ford in India was a carmaker that had purpose-built cars. Meaning all the vehicles were well-engineered and they gave almost attention to detail. That said, if it were to buy a new car (if Ford had stayed) recommending any vehicle from the company was easy peasy. But with the manufacturing stopped for the Indian market, it is a little sceptical.
Why sceptical? Well, there are a couple of things that come to mind. So, let’s first list the problems that you may or may not face with its ownership and then try to answer the burning question.
-
Service
Okay, say you bought a car from Ford’s line-up, the most important and basic concern is the maintenance. A car is a machine and it does require periodic maintenance. Though alongside announcing their exit, Ford also exclaimed that the owners would not face any problems with the spares.
But we’ll take the claim with pinch of salt as at times it is difficult to get an unusual spare even when the company is operational in the country. That said, considering normal repairs the existing Ford spare’s network is well established. Not to worry about that.
-
Unexpected Breakdowns and Repairs.
This is another concerning reason one should reconsider buying a car from Ford at a discount. Not to forget, Fords are usually reliable and tanky, meaning rarely anything goes wrong with them.
But still, if it does, the car could stay at the service centre until the part arrives, if it even does. Otherwise, you also might have to consider the aftermarket parts for your vehicle. But the catch is that it’ll surely hamper the reliability of the vehicle. Still, we’ll say this if you are willing to take the risk, cars from Ford are worth taking the adventure (on a discount though).
-
Resale Value
If the company is not operational in the Indian market it will surely hamper the resale value of the vehicle. But a thing to note is that even the existing values were little on the lower side. With that clear, the concern of resale value depends on the time or the years of ownership. So, if you are planning to keep the car for 7-8 odd years, you should forget about this point.
