If a car manufacturer is able to sell decent numbers of a sizeable car in an era where downsizing is the name of the game, then one can probably attest that those cars enjoy a great deal of popularity amongst the general public and buyers in the segment simply can’t refrain themselves from bringing home a piece of that prestige.
This situation is reminiscent to specifically two cars in the Indian car market, The Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Both of these behemoth SUVs have never had an influential contender to take on in the Indian market but each other. As opposed to other segments wherein one needs to go through a handful of options and tussle to make the best buy, If you are out to buy a full-sized SUV in India, it is literally narrowed down to just these two cars. It the quintessential “arch rivalry” which has been around for almost four years now.
Despite the world being put on a hold during the whole COVID-19 situation, the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour are still quite relevant in the Indian market with the former scheduled to get a mid-life facelift update real soon. A lot has been connected over the years about these two and which one of them is worth its salt and we thought of revisiting the debate in the new BS6 era. So here how the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour stack up against each other in the BS6 era.
BS6 Toyota Fortuner vs BS6 Ford Endeavour | Styling
Both the cars received a BS6 update somewhere around February 2020 and both manufacturers decided to leave the aesthetics of both the cars largely unvaried in the BS6 era.
The 2020 Ford Endeavour gets a revised headlamp cluster with square-shaped projector headlamps which had an oval shape earlier and the engine displacement embossed badge on the side simply says Endeavour now. That’s all that tells it apart from the BS4 generation car.
As for the Toyota Fortuner, the company didn’t plan to revise cosmetics with the BS6 update probably because the Fortuner is slated to get a rather substantial facelift update somewhere around the festive season of 2020.

BS6 Toyota Fortuner vs BS6 Ford Endeavour | Powertrains
With the Influx of BS6 emission norms in the country, all the manufacturers along with the OEM manufacturers had to put in an immense amount of efforts to make their engine technology compatible with the BS6 norms. Similar was the case for Toyota and Ford.
For the BS6 variant, Ford ditched the 3.2 L and 2.2 L motors entirely which were serving the pre-BS6 Ford Endeavour. Instead, they developed an all-new 2.0 Litre engine for the 2020 Ford Endeavour which they mated to a 10-Speed Automatic Transmission. This engine despite being downsized produces power and torque figures which are capable of matching the performance of the bigger engines, the car got earlier. So the new endeavour is a rather perfect balance of power and efficiency than it was ever before.
The Fortuner’s BS6 updated engines have the same displacement as before and produce the same power figures. It is the same 2.8 Litre for the diesel and 2.7 Litre for petrol.
However, with the Facelift slated for launch soon, the Fortuner’s 2.8 Litre diesel mill is expected to have power figures bumped up to 27PS and 50Nm more than the outgoing model.
Which diesel becoming a less favourable option each passing day, this won’t bode well for the Endeavour as it does not come with a petrol variant, unlike the Fortuner.
