Car Sales report 2020. No, we are not missing the month here. This time, we bring to you the yearly sales report! Here are the top 10 selling cars of 2020. Without any surprise, Maruti Suzuki has the majority in this sales. Let’s have a look at which MSIL family member sold how many units in the last year. Here is the yearly sales report for Indian cars.
Maruti Suzuki Swift (1,60,765 Units)
If you are a regular reader, you will know that Swift tops the sale charts almost every month. There is no surprise in seeing this hatch at the top in the yearly sales report too. Yes, Swift is the first one among the top 10 selling cars for 2020. With a sale of 1,60,765 units, India’s favourite hatch ended the last year with an impressive sale stat despite the lockdown and the pandemic.
Maruti Suzuki Alto (1,54,076 Units)
This one is surely due for a facelift now. The worst part is that Maruti is not saying this. Maruti Alto still yields a good sale number but just imagine how the sale would grow if they gave this hatch a facelift! Following Swift, Alto is also seen among the top-selling cars almost every month. For the cumulative yearly sales of 2020, Alto closed with a sale of 1,54,076 units which is again a really good number considering the year of pandemic.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno (1,53,986 Units)
The premium hatch from the Indian automaker, Baleno ended up on the third place among the top 10 selling cars for 2020. As always, its identical twin the Glanza is nowhere to be seen. High time, Toyota must give it a thought if technology sharing is really worth it! Baleno continues to sell in good amounts in India but Altroz is really heating up the competition now. With everyone getting turbo engines we can expect Baleno to lag behind in terms of sales. Let’s see what the future brings.
Maruti WagonR (1,48,298 Units)
A car that has never failed in the Indian market. I repeat, NEVER! WagonR continues to be India’s favourite tallboy hatch because it has multiple things on offer. You can have a manual petrol version, automatic petrol version and the best of all the manual CNG version. All of them are known to deliver excellent mileage. WagonR continues to sell in great numbers in the Indian market and closed the last year with a sale of 1,48,298 units.
Maruti Dzire (1,24,969 units)
The subcompact sedan from the Indian automaker also stands among the top 10 selling cars in 2020. The Maruti Dzire still leads the segment in terms of sales. Despite Honda selling the Amaze and Hyundai selling the Aura none of them is able to match with Dzire’s sales anyhow. In our monthly top 10 sales reports, we always see Dzire in the list at someplace or the other. It ended the last year with a sale of 1,24,969 units.
Maruti Ertiga (1,04,185 Units)
This is the last car in our list which sold over a lakh units in the last year. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, therefore, became the segment leader in terms of sales. You have already seen that Maruti is leading in terms of sales for hatchbacks, compact sedans and now the MPV segment is also dominated by Ertiga only. This MPV from MSIL ended up selling 1,04,185 units and is the last car on the list to hit the 100k mark.
Maruti Eeco (99,480 Units)

Hyundai Creta (96,989 Units)
Hit or miss, we are still trying to figure out. The sales figure show us that its a hit for sure but the mixed reaction from the audience with regards to its design make us think that it might be a miss. However, Creta is the only one from the Hyundai family to be in the list fo top 10 selling cars. Creta ended 2020 with a sale of 96,989 units which is indeed a great figure considering its price range.
Kia Seltos (96,932 Units)
Creta’s sibling is the next one on our list of top-selling cars for 2020. Kia’s first car in India that received an absolutely exceptional response from the Indian market. The Seltos ended 2020 with a sale of 96,932 units. ALthough the audience is now divided between Seltos and Creta, you must know that they are the same inside.
Hyundai Grand i10 (91,930 Units)
Last but not least. On the 10th place of the top-selling cars of 2020, we have the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS. This hatch from the Korean automaker ended up selling 91,930 units in 2020. Well, that’s kind of okay but we expect NIOS to do more in the present year. With the growing competition from Tata Motors, let’s see how Hyundai prepares for this game.
These were the top 10 selling cars for 2020. While most of the places were bagged by Maruti Suzuki, 2 contenders from the Hyundai family made it into the list.
