8 Cars That We Said Goodbye To In 2021

Every year, the automotive world witnesses entry of new or updated cars and the exit of some iconic or not so demanding vehicles. That said, it was 2020 when a ton of cars we know were discontinued. They were the new BS6 exhaust emission norms that initiated this massacre. Now we are nearly at the end of 2021, and here is a list of 8 cars that we said goodbye to.

  1. Ford Ecosport

Let’s start the list with a car from an evident brand Ford that exited India this year, Ecosport. Launched in 2012, Ecosport was not precisely the first vehicle in its segment, but surely it gave a mighty push to its class. We think it is right to say that Ford Ecosport was the first best-selling subcompact SUV in India. Having a set of powerful diesel and petrol engines and brilliant driving dynamics, it lends the car a go-anywhere attitude. Well, this was the reason of Ecosport selling big.

The other vehicle from the same American carmaker that had a cult of its own is the Ford Endeavour. Endeavour has been a part of the market in India for more than a decade. Because of its ultimate response, Ford was bound to update it frequently. That did help the manufacturer with the sales. But alas, the recently updated Ford Endeavour was not able to continue its tenure in India.

  3. Toyota Yaris

Let’s take a detour from SUVs and move to sedans. This comes as a surprise that recently, Toyota pulled the plug on its c-segment sedan ‘Yaris’ in India. To be honest, Toyota Yaris was not something that attracted a crowd. It was a no non-sense vehicle that was reliable. Moreover, it didn’t master any trait of the c-segment sedan in India and again was pretty average at everything. Well, taking the leaders Hyundai Verna and Honda City into the mix, Yaris couldn’t stand a chance.

Sticking on to the sedans, the next car to exit India this year is the Ford Aspire. It is hard to break down that Aspire was indeed a well quipped and value for money vehicle, but it could not make a dent in the market. In addition to the features, Ford Aspire was also known to have exceptional driving dynamics. But now, it has become another car that is just a part of the used car market.

Let’s talk about the most powerful vehicle in its segment when it was new, Ford Figo. How can we talk power and not talk about the engine? Ford Figo was powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine capable of generating a peak power of 92ps. Also, the diesel mill was capable of generating 100ps of max power. This offered the hatch an above-average power to weight ratio.

  6. Ford Freestyle

The Freestyle is one of the few standout crossovers on the market, combining the utility of a hatchback with the appearance of a robust SUV. This crossover has excellent driving dynamics, SUV-like exteriors and is practical as it gets 190 mm of ground clearance; the Freestyle is rather outstanding for everyday use and weekend drives. The Ford Freestyle, in its pre-owned splendour, can offer a better package than a standard hatchback.

Can a brand new car be powerful, exciting to drive, and features loaded also being cheap? The best example of the above is Skoda Rapid. Rapid Rider Plus trim was among the value for money sedans one could buy in the Indian market. Starting with its USP, its heart, the engine. It came powered by a 1.0-litre TSI motor that was capable of generating 110ps of max power. Though Skoda Rapid is still on sale, the value for money trim has been discontinued.

Though just before it was discontinued Grand i10 was a value for money offering. For one it was cheap and also it was decently equipped.
