Majority of the vehicles running on the road now come with Fast Tags. Well, it is a boon having a fast tag. So, these RFID tags have been made compulsory by the government from day 1 of 2021.
Nitin Gadkari, who is the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs, exclaimed on Thursday that Fast-Tag will be compulsory for all the vehicles running on the road from 2021.

Fast-Tag is a quick and easy electronic way to carry the toll transactions. With the use of the tag, one can save time, money and fuel.
- It was 2016 when the Fast Tag was first launched. It was started with the help of 4 major banks jointly providing around 1 lakh tags back then.
- Within a year the number of Fast Tags supplied jumped to a whopping 7 lakhs. Also, in 2017 the Fast Tag was made compulsory in all the 4 wheelers at the time of registering a new vehicle.
- Additionally, there has been a word going that the Fast Tag will be made compulsory also for getting third party insurance. But this will be implemented from 1st April next year.
- Authorities also added that the ministry is taking the necessary steps to make the Fast Tags accessible. This will be done through numerous platforms, like online or physical locations.
In order to reduce traffic clogging or slow-moving traffic and to safe time NETC (National Toll Collection programme) has been implemented throughout India.
