Casper (AX1) has been amongst the most awaited upcoming Hyundai cars in India for some time. This micro SUV from Hyundai is scheduled to go into production in South Korea by 15th September and is expected to make its way to India soon after. The company has so far been tight-lipped about the design and features of the Casper. However, leaked documents and testing images have revealed what we were all waiting to know about the model.
-
Smallest SUV by Hyundai
The AX1 model, which is being marketed as Casper in Korea, is the most compact SUV Hyundai has registered so far. The size of the car is expected to be less than that of Venue, Hyundai’s sub-four metre micro SUV.
-
Peppy Engine
In Korea, Hyundai is offering a choice between a 1.0L Naturally Aspired (NA) petrol motor and a 1.0L turbo-petrol motor. The NA option will allow the car 76 Hp while the turbo petrol motor will allow up to 100Hp. However, the engine options may be modified for the Indian market. The 1.2L Kappa unit used in Grand i10 Nios or the Santro’s 1.1L motor may be made available in India for the Casper instead of the turbo trim.
-
Unorthodox Looks
The Casper will have a boxy contour similar to K1 compact cars. It will have a flat bonnet flanked by roof rails. The Casper’s distinctive round headlights and its split set up along with its daytime running lamp and triangular motifs on its taillights are what will set it apart and give it a quirky look.
-
A Spacious Interior
The Hyundai Casper will have a spacious cabin. Pictures reveal Hyundai has decided to go for white upholstery to deck up the interiors. The car is also likely to have auto climate controls.
-
Safety features
The Hyundai Casper will have multiple airbags, a rearview camera and crash sensors for safety. The micro SUV is also expected to have an inbuilt ABS and EBD.
-
Infotainment System
The car infotainment system has come a long way from the days of the car radio, and Casper’s touch-enabled infotainment panel proves this. The entertainment system will have multiple connectivity options to enable the car owner to connect it with their device of choice.
-
Its Rivals
The Casper was designed to be a competitor to Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The micro SUV is also likely to face competition from Tata HBX, and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT along with high-end hatchbacks.
-
Hyundai Casper Price
The predicted price for Casper in India is between 5-6 lakhs. However, its final price will depend on the engine choices and features made available in the country.
-
Availability
The Casper is ready for production in South Korea. This is a good sign for those in India who are keen on the model. We believe the micro SUV will be made available in India by early next year.
We can’t wait for Casper to come to India.
