Mahindra is one of India’s leading car manufacturers, and they have been in the market for decades. They’re very well renowned in the commercial vehicles market. However, now Mahindra has also made a name for itself in the passenger car market too. With exceptional products like the XUV300, the XUV500, Thar and the latest XUV700, Mahindra has come a long way.   1. Mahindra wasn’t originally an Automotive Company!

Yes, you read that right! Today, anytime we hear someone say Mahindra we subconsciously picture an SUV in our head. However, Mahindra has not been an automotive company forever. It was originally founded in 1945 as a Steel Trading Company. The original name of the company was Mahindra and Mohammed since it was founded in collaboration between the Mahindra brothers and Ghulam Mohamed. However, Mr. Mohammed became Pakistan’s Finance Cabinet Minister in 1948, leaving the company in the Mahindra brother’s hands. It was then renamed as Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. This one’s probably one of the most interesting facts about Mahindra!

  1. Entry in the automotive sector

In the year 1954, Mahindra & Mahindra joined hands with Willys Overland Corporation. With this collaboration, Mahindra agreed to start assembling JEEP type vehicles in India, thus making an entry into the automotive sector!

  1. First to launch the CRDe engine

Mahindra was the first-ever company to launch a car with the Common Rail Diesel Engine in India. They offered the CRDe in the Scorpio way back in 2005. This engine helped the Scorpio become much more drivable, NVH levels were cut down and efficiency increased significantly!

  1. Getting into the EV world!

In 2010, Mahindra bought 55% equity in Reva Electric. Remember the Reva? The cute little electric car that we found was too small for practical usage. Mahindra went on to purchase 100% equity in Reva Electric in the year 2016, and the company was renamed as Mahindra Electric.

Well, this one is not so unknown, but it is interesting. Mahindra is definitely one of the nest automakers in India. Yes, their cars miss out on a few details in fit and finish, but that basic pillars that hold a car together- Mahindra always gets them right. Their engines, build quality, suspensions and transmissions are top-notch and almost never fail to impress the consumers. Where most manufacturers are trying to impress the audience with big screens and cooled seats, Mahindra has its eyes on sustainability, technology, reliability and safety.
