The New Renegade to become Jeep’s First Plug In Hybrid

Jeep has revealed its new powerful petrol plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) of its already available Renegade stated to launch in 2020. 

  • The already available Jeep Renegade is not available in India however it is expected that Jeep will launch the new variant in India.
  • The PHEV will have a range of 50km at a constant speed of 130km/h in perfect conditions.
  • The Electric motor will be mounted on the back under the rear seat.
  • The Jeep Renegade will be sacrificing some boot space (around 15 litres of space) to compensate for the Electric motor.
  • The Engine is a 180hp, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with six-speed automatic transmission.
  • Compared to the current variant, the new Jeep Renegade will have a fuel tank capacity of 39 litres from the original 48 litres.
  • The Jeep Renegade has the option to go either petrol mode or electric mode with each mode driving different wheels.

Supporting an all-wheel-drive mode will have an output of 240hp which is 60hp more than what the petrol engine can output alone.

A Plugin hybrid system petrol system has the option to charge the battery through the regenerative braking system or through just a normal output power source. The battery-powered motor has better mileage compared to a standard hybrid system.

  • The new Jeep Renegade will be 120kg more than the older diesel-powered variant and will have an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 7 seconds. 
  • The car even though switching to the new PHEV will still have its off-roading capabilities with All wheel drive the rear wheels powered by Electric motor and Front wheels powered by a Petrol engine and it can wade through water up to 50cm deep.

The Jeep Renegade will not be bringing the available variant in India however the new model is expected to launch in India.
