For most, a car is just for commuting from point A to point B. And for petrolheads, a car is more of an emotion than a materialistic thing. A car enthusiast has got a ton of things on the shopping list when buying a car. One such thing is 0-100kmph timings or acceleration timings. Yes, there is a Maruti Suzuki too on the list.

Although, the owner will not be pushing the car every time to its limits but it’s fun, to drive a vehicle that always has power at its disposal. And what segment other than a sedan can make complete use of the power. So, in today’s feature, we’ll be looking at 10 sedans in India and their acceleration timings;

1. Ford Aspire, 1.5 TDCi (0-100: 9.72s)
   

   

   The American carmaker Ford is known to make driver-focused cars. Here in India, as of now, Ford’s only offering in the sedan segment is Aspire. And what if we say it is not only good in handling but also quick. Well, the companies 1.5-TDCi 4-cylinder diesel engine, that is capable of churning 100horses with 210Nm of peak torque.

   This motor in the Aspire comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Pretty generic right? But, out in the real world, this small sedan is capable of achieving a 0-100 acceleration time of about 9.7seconds. This is something mouth-watering!

2. Skoda Rapid, 1.0 TSI (0-100: 9.77s)
   

   

   This is the era of turbo petrol engines and one of the first vehicles to enter the trend in BS6 avatar was the Skoda Rapid. This means that the Rapid with German DNA will surely be fun to drive and yes it definitely is.

   Propelling this potent sedan is a small 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 110ps of max power and 175Nm of maximum torque. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT (torque converter).

3. Hyundai Verna, 1.5- CRDi (0-100: 9.7s)
   

   

   Apart from Rapid, Hyundai Verna is considered to be a driver’s car. This is not because of its handling characteristics but the engine, that too the diesel engine. The BS6 1.5-CDRI engine from Hyundai is the most powerful diesel engine in its segment. This motor generates 115ps of max power and the torque output sits at 250Nm. The car gets an option of a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed Torque converter automatic.

4. Honda City, 1.5- iVTEC (0-100: 10.20s)
   

   

   Honda is a master when it comes to a petrol engine. With the 5th generation of City, they give the engine a slight update. With that update, the engine produces more power and more torque. Meaning? The Honda City is quick. The engine is a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This gem motor produces 122ps of sheer power and 145Nm of maximum torque. And how can someone forget i-Vtec?

5. Hyundai Aura, 1.0-Turbo Petrol (0-100: 10.27s)
   

   

   The compact sedan is among the toughest segments for carmakers to conquer. To do exactly that, Hyundai brought Aura into the Indian market a while back. To stand out in the crowd, the Aura boasts of a really powerful 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that also does duties in the Venue.

   Well, this is the engine that makes this not so good-looking sedan fun to drive. The engine under the hood is capable of producing a max power of 100ps whereas the torque output sits at a decent 172Nm. Well, these are some really great numbers considering its rivals. Also, this engine can propel the vehicle from 0-100 in about 10.27 seconds, which is pretty good.

6. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, 1.5 Naturally Aspirated Petrol (0-100: 10.2s)
   

   

   Don’t go by the name Maruti as it is among the fastest sedans on the list. Some time back, Maruti Suzuki introduced a new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in Ciaz. And the acceleration numbers are from that very engine. The motor generates 105ps of max power and 138Nm of peak torque. With that in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the engine is mated to a 5 speed MT and a 4-speed torque converter.

7. Volkswagen Vento, 1.0 TSI (0-100: 10.42s)
   

   

   Rapid and Vento share the same underpinnings because they have the same parents. Nevertheless, Vento because of its possible weight it is quick, but not as quick as the Rapid. Under the hood, Vento gets the same powertrain and drivetrain as its sibling.

8. Honda Amaze, 1.5- iDTEC (0-100: 12.50s)
   

   

   When talking about petrol engines there is one brand that instantly pops into our heads, Honda. Honda makes some really sick and powerful petrol engines. But this time around, their diesel is what makes their entry-level sedan Amaze stand out.

   The Honda Amaze shares the diesel engine with its bigger more expensive sibling City in exactly the same state of tune. This motor lets the vehicle to sprint from a standstill to 100kmph in about 12.5seconds. Although it is not quick enough, it sure is exciting to drive with minimal turbo lag.

9. Toyota Yaris, 1.5- Naturally Aspirated Petrol (0-100: 12.77s)*
   

   

   Yes, there still exists a sedan from another Japanese carmaker Toyota. The Yaris came back in 2018 but did not see the bright side of the automotive marker in our country. Where the Toyota Yaris is not a bad buy, it isn’t conventional either. The thing it comes down too was the price of deal ratio.

   Yaris is the jack of all trades but a master of none. That said, under the hood, the sedan had a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that is in no terms exciting. But yes, if it’s Toyota it is built like a tank. Never the less, this engine made the vehicle achieve the 0-100 acceleration time of 12.77seconds. Also, do remember these numbers are for the automatic CVT variant and not the manual like others.

10. Tata Tigor, 1.2-Naturally Aspirated Petrol (0-100: 14s)
    

    

    The slowest vehicle or rather sedan in under 10 lakhs is Tata Tigor. Although this car comes with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated engine it is not enough. Talking about the specs, the motor is capable of generating 86ps of max power and 113Nm of peak torque.

    Transferring the power from the engine to the front wheels is a 5-speed manual transmission. Moving on to the important bit, the Tigor goes from 0-100kmph in about 14seconds. Well, in one word it is slow.
