Maruti Suzuki Eeco BS6 Launches With A Price Tag Of 3.81 Lakhs

Ye olde classic van Maruti Suzuki Eeco was recently released with a BS6 compliant engine making it 25,000 INR dearer than the BS4 one. Surprisingly ARAI rated fuel economy has increased which is the opposite of what happens when a BS6 engine is used.

  • The BS6 Maruti Suzuki Eeco won’t get a new K-series engine employed by Wagon R, Baleno and Swift, instead, it gets an updated version of the older G-series.
  • The change to a K-series was not possible as it cant be longitudinally mounted and provide power to the rear wheels.
  • The engine in Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a 1.2 L four-cylinder.

The most interesting thing about the BS6 Eeco is the fact that it gets a better economy which is usually not the case as BS6 compliance forces pollution controlling accessories that help reduce Nox emissions at the cost of efficiency, in this case however there is increased efficiency. As it is reported by ARAI it is certified information and not just rumours.

  • The fuel efficiency increases from 15.37kpl to 16.11kpl.
  • The horsepower of Maruti Suzuki Eeco is expected to be same at 73hp however there has been a small downgrade in the rotational force area with torque going from 101Nm to 98Nm.

Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director of Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that they believe in a cleaner environment and that their commitment towards it is the reason for pushing BS6 Eeco. He also thanked his customers for constant support to Eeco which is mostly used for business utility and as a family transport vehicle.

Eeco sold over 1 lakh in 2 years after its launch in 2010. After it was obvious that Maruti Suzuki Eeco was mostly used for cargo a new cargo version of it was released in FY15 which sold another 1 lakh units in 3 years. It is expected to make the same number of sales in the upcoming years.
