Maruti Suzuki Ertiga vs MG 360M | Challenge Accepted?

MG Motors India showcased its potential contender for the Indian MPV market segment during the 2020 Auto Expo called the MG 360M, which is nothing but a rebadged Baojun 360. Ever since the showcase, their haven’t been any further developments on its arrival to the Indian shores, but the product seems to be a fair contender for the different offerings currently in the segment.

If and when launched in India, It is very much likely to go head-to-head against the segment’s leader in the country, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Let’s see how these two will stack up against each other in a fight for supremacy.

Exterior styling and Dimension Differences

The first thing that you’ll notice after seeing the two cars back-to-back is that their design language shares a high degree of resemblance, especially from the front and side profile of both the cars. The MG’s overall design is what you call minimalistic and fundamental whereas, the Ertiga’s design consists of sharper elements like it’s Volvo inspired tail lamps and sloping roof-styled C-pillar.   • MG 360M is longer and sits on a longer wheelbase when compared to the Maruti Ertiga. While both models are equally wide, the Ertiga stands taller.
  • 360M with a marginally longer wheelbase, guarantee more leg space than Ertiga. As an authentic 6-seater MPV with a 2+2+2 seating design. While, the Maruti Ertiga, then again, is a 7-seater MPV with 2+3+2 seating arrangement.
  • By turning the second and third line seats down, the new MG MPV offers a boot space of 1350-litres. While the Ertiga’s cargo volume remains at 400-litres that can be extended up to 550-liters with the third row down and 803-litres with the second row down.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga vs MG 360M | Features

The recently updated Maruti Ertiga got various tech upgrades, but the MG 360M comes loaded with better new-age features. The International-spec 360 M showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo was equipped with a host of features like an Electric adjustable driver’s seat, Electric Sunroof, 8-inch infotainment screen, and multi-function steering.

The Ertiga, on the other hand, comes equipped with features like an Infotainment screen with Android-Auto and Apple Carplay Compatibility, while Projector lamps and Rear parking sensors to be offered as standard.

The 360M seems to have an upper hand on the Ertiga when it comes to features on offer.

The Ertiga currently comes equipped with safety features like Dual air-bags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ISOFIX child seats compatibility (2nd row). Taking the fight to its potential rival, the 360M also comes equipped with Dual-airbags, Bosh’s Electronic stability programme (ESP), tyre pressure monitor system, etc.

This is a particular area in which an MPV is always critically reviewed, thankfully both the cars don’t disappoint with what they have on offer. The Ertiga has a seating capacity of 7 occupants, while the 360M has only two captain seats in the middle-row. The Ertiga also comes with one-touch retractable middle seats, a feature missing on the MG. Both cars provide an ample amount of space in the third-row but the MG might feel a bit more relaxing for a significant amount of hours in the third-row due to a bigger glass area on the sides.

So this is how both the cars stack up against each other in all the parameters. It will be one interesting battle, once the MG 360M is launched in India.

While the MG 360M MPV showcased at the Auto Expo is a production model. We can expect some change when it actually hits the Indian roads. The tentative launch will probably happen somewhere in late 2020 or early 2021. Prices for the mg 360M will range in between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom India).
