Amidst the on-going Coronavirus outbreak India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Private limited has registered a massive 32.05 per cent drop in production and has only managed to assemble 92,540 units as compared to the 136,201 units during the same month last year.
However, Maruti Suzuki has also witnessed a minor increase in its entry-level offerings like the S-Presso micro SUV and the Alto hatchback for which the brand has seen an increase in production by almost 1.09 per cent. Maruti Suzuki has produced around 17,630 units of the Alto hatchback as compared to the 17,439 units last year.

It seems that the demand has changed rapidly since the past few months in the production and sales of hatchbacks, premium hatchbacks, and subcompact sedans by almost 38.29 per since the past year

Not only that Maruti Suzuki India has also witnessed a massive drop of 14.19% in the compact SUV and MPV segment as compared to last year. Furthermore, the compact has recorded a drop in the van segment by 58.33 per cent at 6545 units as compared to 15,710 units as last year.
So, till now Maruti has collectively seen a decline of 47 per cent in overall sales during March 2020. MSIL has sold more than 83,792 units as compared to the 158,076 units sold during March 2019. This drop is being blamed to the on-going Coronavirus outbreak and the nation wise lockdown which is forcing many carmakers to suspend
all production and sales since 22nd March 2020.
