Most Common Traffic Violations In Delhi!

Traffic rules are made for our own good, but many of us fail to follow them. No violation of a traffic rule is innocent and it can directly affect your safety and the safety of others on the road. Delhi, being the capital of India has some of the most developed roads in the country. And getting carried away on these roads is something that can happen to anyone. Therefore, here are the most common traffic violations in Delhi(and the penalties)!

  • Driving without seatbelts

One of the most common traffic violations throughout India is driving without a seatbelt. Yes, most cars today ring an alarm when you don’t wear your seatbelt, but we are very smart. There are many products in the market than can shut off that alarm and you don’t have to wear your seatbelts. In Delhi, the fine for this violation is Rs. 1000 and/or community service.

  • Driving under influence 

Well well well, unfortunately, this is one of the most common traffic violations throughout India. Driving under the influence of any substance is absolutely illegal. It is highly unsafe for all people on the roads. The fine for this offense is Rs. 10000 and/or 6 months in jail. A second timer for this violation will be fined Rs. 15000 and/or 2 years in jail.

  • Overspeeding

Overspeeding sounds fun, but can be obviously unsafe. One of the most common traffic violations amongst us car buffs, overspeeding is best suggested on tracks only. On highways as well, we must follow the speed limits because you can never know with Indian roads.   • Violation of road regulations 

Some people in India follow the red lights and road signs only when there are traffic police around. While this saves them from getting fined, it can still result in safety issues. Violation of traffic regulations like parking in a no parking zone, skipping a red light, changing lanes unnecessarily, etc. can result in a fine of Rs. 1000 – 2000.   • Not giving way to emergency vehicles 

Not giving way to an ambulance, police vehicle, or fire brigade is a major traffic violation. We appeal to our readers to please give way to any such vehicles.   • Driving without registration

Driving a vehicle without registration is also one of the most common traffic violations. Driving without registration right after you purchase the car is fine, as long as you have a valid temporary slip from the RTO. However, driving without registration can raise a lot of suspicion and is a major red flag for the police. The fine for this violation is Rs. 5000 for a first-time offense and Rs. 10000 for subsequent times.

These were some of the most common traffic violations in Delhi and their fines. These were the violations for which the police can stop you on the road. Other violations such as not carrying your license, insurance, PUC, or any other papers can cost you anywhere between Rs. 500 – 5000.
