In an attempt to improve traffic management in Bengaluru, The city’s newly appointed commissioner has taken a few stern steps. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Police department will be installing over 250 high-definition cameras at 50 traffic junctions to catch traffic violators.
- This initiative is part of the ITMS (Intelligent Traffic Management System) movement.
- these high-definition cameras are capable of detecting traffic violations including red-light jumping, overspeeding, seat-belt violations, and stop lane violations.
- With the help of these cameras, a notice and challan can be issued within 60 secs of the violation.
- There could also be an increase in the existing fines if the department sees no improvement in the violations.
- This movement has been initiated to ensure better road behavior and compliance
- In another attempt to make things smoother, the commissioner of Bengaluru has launched another movement.
- This initiative involves making the lives of people parking on the footpath a living hell.
- The state police will file an FIR and register a court case against people found parking on the footpath.
- An additional fine will also be imposed on the culprits. The Govt. also plans on introducing a new towing law for people parking on footpaths.
- Till now Police have booked over 350 cases under IPC 283
- The Police also plans to follow the Manhattan model and use AI to monitor traffic in the city.
- The city also prepares to install ANPRs (Automatic number-plate recognition) on red lights to efficiently monitor traffic and violations.
