Tata Car Sales Report February 2021

Tata Motors is starting this year with a bang. At the end of this February, the company disclosed its highest sales figures of around a decade (107 months to be exact). Compared to last year, the total sales in the PV (Passenger Vehicle) segment doubled and recorded a growth of 119.03% this February.

  • While Tata sold 12,430 passenger vehicles domestically in February 2020, the YoY (year-over-year) sales increased this February. They sold 27,225 units this time around.
  • There was a boost in commercial vehicle exports as well. Tata witnessed an increase from 28,071 units in February 2020 to 33,966 units in February 2021.
  • Moreover, last month alone, the company managed to sell a total of 58,473 vehicles domestically.
  • Along with this, 61,365 vehicles were demanded both in the domestic and international markets this February 2021. This too, higher than that of the last year’s numbers.

The indigenous carmaker presently holds 8.82% of the market share. When it comes to sales volume, Tata enjoys 3rd place this February. It only trails after Maruti and Hyundai which sold 1,44,761 units and 51,600 units respectively.

The big boost in demand for Tata cars can be credited to models like Harrier, Tiago, Altroz, Nexon and Safari. However, most of the sales are brought in by Tiago, Altroz and Nexon. MoM (month-over-month) sales figures did not see a big growth though. Compared to the figures in January 2021, sales only increased by 1 per cent (244 units) this February.

The Utility Vehicles

Tata Nexon first car to join IDIS Platform

Tata Nexon is one of the chart-busting SUVs in the country. In relation to February 2020, the sales of this compact SUV has increased by a colossal 103%. Tata Motors sold 7,929 units of Nexon this February. However, compared to January this year the sales figures for this car showed a slight decline. This is because, in January 2021, Indians demanded 8,225 Nexons.

Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza flaunt the highest sales figures in the SUV segment.

At the same time, Nexon EV with a certified range of 312km is presently India’s top-selling electric vehicle in the country. Launched a year ago Tata successfully sold over 2500 units of this car by the end of 2020. In the electric vehicle segment, Tata is in the lead with a market share of 64%.

Tata Safari Launching In February

Tata managed to sell 2,443 Harriers at the beginning of 2021. The new Safari was launched a few weeks back bringing an end to much anticipation. The 2021 Safari starts at a base price of ₹14.69 lakh and comes with plenty of features as well.

Tata’s best seller Altroz was rolled out last year during the pre-pandemic times. This premium hatchback with a 5-star safety rating registered a sales volume of 7,378 units in January 2021. Altroz remained one of the best selling cars for the manufacturer this February as well.

Along with this, the compact hatchback Tiago also witnessed a huge demand. Being the safest car in the segment this is not a big surprise. Tata sold 6,909 units of Tiago in January 2021. Even though we couldn’t get our hands on the exact sales figures for last month we can say that Tiago – too – faired exceedingly well.

This February Tata surely outdid itself. We can credit this increase in sales volumes to its unwavering commitment to safety and an eye for detail.

The aggregate sales figures of all the passenger vehicles sold in the country this February was at 3,08,611 units. With the economy getting back on track so are the car sales.
