Tata Motors finally unveiled the Tata Punch, or as we called it, the Tata HBX. The Punch had been in the works for quite some time now, and now it’s here. This will be Tata’s first product in this segment. It will be competing with cars like the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Ignis and the upcoming Hyundai Casper. Let’s see how the Punch looks like in front of it and if it really Punches them out of the market!
-
Exterior
Tata has given this car a very bold and hefty design. It will make you feel like you are looking at a smaller version of the Tata Harrier. While most competitors have given their cars a sleek and modern look, Tata has done just the opposite. The Punch will be loved by someone who wants a strong and rugged looking car in this segment.

Interior
The interiors of the Tata Punch have not been revealed yet. However, we expect it to follow a look similar to the one we see on the Altroz. It might feature a floating infotainment screen and a combination of analogue and a digital display for the driver’s screen. Someone looking for an up to date and feature-loaded interior might not be very impressed with the Punch, but let’s keep our fingers crossed on this.

Engine
We expect the Tata Punch to come with the same 1.2L petrol that we see on the Tiago and the Tigor. On the higher trims, Tata might offer the 1.2L turbo petrol that we see on the Altroz i-Turbo. The naturally aspirated 1.2L petrol engine produces 85HP while the turbo petrol produces 108HP. The Magnite and the Kiger too have competitive engines, producing a chunky 98HP, while the Ignis remains the least powered car in the segment.

Safety
Looking at Tata’s recent trends, we expect the Punch to be built immaculate, just like the Altroz. We have no confirmation on a safety rating yet, but if it shares its platform with the Altroz, we can say that it will be the safest car in the segment. No doubt.

Pricing
The Tata Punch is going to be priced somewhere between Rs-5-6 Lakhs, just like its competition. The Magnite starts at Rs.5.59 Lakhs, Kiger starts at Rs.5.64 Lakhs, and the Ingis starts at Rs.4.95 Lakhs. All are ex-showroom prices.
