Overall performance
2022 has been a very strong year for Tata Motors. The first 3 quarters showed tremendous growth, and the fourth quarter ended with a slight decline in sales. Even with a 13% fall in Tata sales in December 2022, the brand managed to stay ahead of Hyundai. In general, the overall sales in the industry have declined in the last quarter. Here’s how the year has been for Tata. EV sales also contribute a lot to Tata’s sales in December 2022. However, the number of EV sales was at its peak in Q3. During Q3 of 2022, Tata sold more than 12,000 EVs!

Tata sales in December 2022 – Growth Story
Tata has aggressively been launching new cars like the Tiago EV, Punch, Tigor EV, and multiple variants for existing cars, including CNG options. So much so that the Nexon now has 77 variants on offer, and this is excluding the EV lineup! The huge list of variants helps Tata ensure that there is a car for every customer at every price point. Special editions, Electric Vehicles, and unique color schemes ensure that no buyer walks out without an option in mind. This is one of the reasons behind the 13.44% YoY growth in Tata sales in December 2022. Overall, Tata sales have risen by a massive 59% in 2022 as compared to 2021. The volume growth here stands at 1,95,000 units.

Is Tata on its way to being the industry leader?
If there’s anything we can gauge from Tata sales in December 2022, it is that the company is growing. As compared to a few years ago, Tata has improved significantly. And the growth has been consistent both in terms of product quality and sales figures. What Tata needs to do now is focus on adding more tech to its cars. Features like ADAS and fluid infotainment screens are now expected in slightly pricier cars. Yes, Tata now stands neck to neck with Hyundai, but beating Maruti in India is a next-to-impossible task. However, Tata does hold a very large share of the EV market, and the OEM will continue to focus on that side.
Tata has been performing phenomenally, and we hope the local brand grows further in 2023! Which Tata car would you like to see in your garage? Let us know in the comments below!
