As the month passes by, certain changes are happening in the industry. Tata has been gradually making progress to beset Hyundai and take over second place in the race. It is the third-largest car manufacturer, just lagging by a small gap. We all know the SUV segment has been the most selling & trending for a while. Hyundai hoped to cope with January, but it appears to be beaten by Nexon & Punch. While Kia has also witnessed a slight overall decline, let’s look at the top 10 best selling SUVs last month:

Tata Nexon
Tata Motors sold more than 13,816 units of the compact SUV last month. While the industry has also been coping with supply chain issues, the sales of Nexon have been intact and at an all-time high.

Nexon EV also holds the position of the most selling EV; in total, the company sold 40,777 cars in the previous month. The YoY growth has reached impressive heights, with the numbers shooting up; it stands at about 68%.

Kia Seltos
Kia also witnessed slight growth in the case of Seltos, with a 16% YoY growth. It has a short waiting period and also comes in a GT variant. They sold 11,483 units of Seltos last month.

Kia is also focusing on their new MPV, Carens. One might call it a bigger Seltos, but they are focused on loading it with the latest features & entering the MPV segment and trying to compete with the Ertiga.

Hyundai Venue
The venue is among the company’s top performers and has still managed to reach a decent number with a slight loss. Hyundai sold 10,360 units of their compact SUV, which is a little less when comparing YoY, which was 11,779.

There is also a rumour around saying there might be a Venue EV incoming this year. As the brand stated about introducing a line of EVs, Venue might be the first to get an electric powertrain.

Tata Punch
Launched five months back, the Punch has performed very well for Tata. It has conquered a lot quickly and has a waiting period. In the last month, Tata has sold 10,027 units of the micro-SUV.

Punch and Nexon have deserved the credit for the growth Tata has enjoyed. With this speed and growing graphs, Tata might beat Hyundai in the long run.

Hyundai Creta
Creta is the most popular segment regardless of its position on the list. The sales number has always been well, but the supply crisis has caused an inevitable decline this time. Hyundai sold only 9,869 units of the mid-size SUV last month.

Overall the Creta has been in more than 2 lakh homes since the facelift in 2020. But the current numbers mark a 20% decline compared YoY sales.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Brezza is also on the decline list with a slight setback. It has lost its lead in the segment, and Maruti Suzuki only sold 9,576 units last month. It is less than the 10,623 units sold last year January.

But this is a temporary low as Maruti is working on a generation update for the Brezza. It is expected to launch this year and make their SUV more premium & feature loaded. The update will surely compensate for this decline.

Kia Sonet
Similar to its sibling Venue, Sonet has also witnessed a decline. Kia observed a 22% decline in Sonet’s sales. Unlike its elder sibling Seltos, it could not perform and keep up with the previous numbers.

They only sold 6,904 units last month, which might worry the carmaker. This performance of Venue & Sonet might worry the company more with the rising competition and new launches.

Mahindra Thar
Mahindra has launched the most promising products in the last two years with excellent performance and 4 or 5-star safety ratings. But the extensive waiting periods are the only problem despite the enormous bookings.

They managed to sell only 4,646 units of the Thar in the previous month; there is slight growth compared YoY with the last year’s number being 3,152, but this number could go much higher.

Mahindra XUV300
The XUV300 has tried to maintain its consistent performance in the compact SUV segment, with 4,550 units sold last month. Compared as YoY, there is a slight loss as Mahindra sold 4,612 units in January 2021.

Mahindra might launch the eXUV300 soon; a test mule was spied recently. It is expected to compete with the Nexon with similar pricing and range.

Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra’s flagship SUV, the ultimate XUV700, has received over 1 lakh bookings, but hardly any of them have reached the owners. They have only billed 14,000 units since August 2021 and sold only 4,119 units in the last month.

Mahindra must scale up the production to cater to the enormous number of bookings received for the Thar & XUV700. These sales numbers will go significantly higher when the product meets the demands.
