With 2019 coming to an end and there is no doubt that India’s automotive industry has seen a major downfall in the last 8 months but still the automotive market on making new and pocket-friendly cars each day. - Ford Ecosport:
The new 2019 Ford Ecosport comes with a new bold look and latest stylist design and is defining all relevance of a budget SUV in all ways. One of the most essential features of Ford EcoSport is the 1.5-litre Ecoboost engine. All EcoSport variants, to have the automatic transmission system whereas the remaining vehicles run on 6-speed manual gears.
The price starts at Rs. 7.81 L for petrol variant 1.5L Ti-VCT Ambiente and goes up to Rs. 11.20 lakh for 1.5L Ti-VCT Titanium Plus AT. The price for the diesel variants starts at Rs. 8.31 Lakhs for 1.5L TDCi Ambiente and goes up to Rs. 11.35 lakhs for 1.5L TDCi Titanium.
- Renault Duster:
The Renault duster looks familiar with the Nissan Terrano but is quite distinctive in terms of its features. Although not being under 4 meters of length, The Renault duster is the first to spread the compact budget SUV trend in the country. It offers a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines which have been carried forward. The 1.5-litre petrol puts out 106PS of power and 142 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 110PS and 248Nm. It is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.49 lakhs and will take on the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the likes.
- Hyundai Creta:
Hyundai launched Creta in mid-2015 and since then the vehicle has dominated the premium budget SUV segment. It comes with revised headlamps with LED daytime running lights and faux bash plate. The facelifted Creta is expected to continue with the present engine options: 1.6-litre petrol and diesel as well as the 1.4-litre diesel engine. The prices start at Rs. 10.00 lakh for petrol and goes upto Rs. 14.18 lakh. The prices for the diesel variants start at Rs. 10.00 lakh and the top-end variant is priced at Rs.15.67 lakh.
- Hyundai Venue:
A budget SUV in the true sense. Hyundai has recently launched its new subcompact budget SUV ‘Venue’ which looks to be a scaled-down version of Hyundai Creta but the styling seems to be on a more flamboyant side with those split headlamps. It also gets a choice of three engine options – two petrol and one diesel.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and has an output of 83PS/115 Nm while only being offered on the E & S variants. The 1.4-litre diesel engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and produces 90 PS/220 Nm and the diesel doesn’t get an automatic option. The prices start at Rs. 6.50 lakh for petrol and goes upto Rs. 11.11 lakh.
- Mahindra TUV 300:
The new mahindra launched the TUV 300 with new features and some cosmetic upgrades. Considering the practicality it offers more space, extra seating options, competitive pricing and of course, a commanding road presence. The 1.5-litre mHawk100 makes the same 100PS and 240 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The price ranges from Rs. 8.54 – 10.55 lakh. It is also being considered as the most durable and best SUVs in India.
- Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza:
The Vitara Brezza is Maruti Suzuki’s first sub-compact budget SUV which is under 4m length and competes with Mahindra TUV 300 and Ford Eco Sport. It is accompanied with a 1.3-litre diesel engine that develops 90PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT transmission and comes with the VDi, ZDi and ZDi+ variants. Its price ranges from Rs. 7.68 – 10.65 lakh.
- Mahindra XUV 300:
Mahindra has finally launched the XUV300 and it shares its design and styling cues with the XUV500. It is also being considered as the shortened and re-engineered version of Mahindra subsidiary SsangYong’s Tivoli. The Mahindra XUV300 debuts many class-first features.
However, it is also among the pricier compact budget SUVs. It is available with petrol and diesel engine options with standard-fit 6-speed manual transmissions. The diesel engine is additionally available with the option of an AMT auto. It also comes with First-in-segment safety features like 7 Airbags, Front Parking Sensors & Heated ORVMs. The prices for this baby beast starts from ₹8.1 lakhs – ₹11 lakhs.
- Tata Harrier:
Earlier this year Tata stepped into the premium SUV segment with Tata Harrier the first in its class to be built on a Land-Rover D8 platform. Its radical design might not be to all tastes but there’s no denying it is an incredibly eye-catching budget SUV. The Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that churns out 140PS of power and 350 Nm of torque.
It is the same engine that powers the Jeep Compass. It is packed with a host of features though most of them are offered on the top-end variant only, especially safety features like 6 airbags, traction control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rollover mitigation control and electronic stability control. The prices for this start at ₹14.1 lakhs – ₹15.8 lakhs.
- MG Hector:
The Hector is Chinese-owned British carmaker Morris Garages. The MG Hector has been finally launched in India and it is offered in four variants- Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It is available with two petrol and one diesel engine variants to choose from. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit which is capable of producing 143PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel engine remains the same 2.0-litre unit that powers the Compass. Here, it produces 170PS and 350Nm.
The Hector is also equipped with a mild-hybrid variant which is equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system mated to the 1.5-litre petrol engine. The Hector’s standout feature is its large 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment which gets in-built internet connectivity, iSmart mobile application-based AC control as well as door lock and unlock. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch colour MID, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake and 6 airbags and has become the highest-selling budget SUV in India. The ranges from this sleek and shining beauty vary from Rs. 12.18 – 16.88 lakh.
- Kia Seltos:
The much anticipated Kia Seltos the car that also marks the grand debut of the Kia brand in India. The Creta rival budget SUV is packed with features and offers multiple drivetrains and innovations, and sets new benchmarks in equipment and performance. It is available with BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine variants.
The 1.5-litre petrol motor is rated at 115 PS/144 Nm whereas the diesel engine puts out 115PS/ 250 Nm. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, on the other hand, gives an output of 140 PS/242 Nm and is exclusively available with the GT Line variants. The prices start at Rs. 9.69 lakh for petrol and goes upto Rs. 16.99 lakh. The prices for diesel variants start at Rs. 9.99 lakh and the top-end diesel is priced at Rs. 16.99 lakh.
