It can be seen that the automotive sector isn’t favourable in the entire world. Still, the automotive manufacturers are trying their best with new vehicles to offer, this includes Hyundai too. The Korean car manufacturer showcased the new 2021 Hyundai Elantra in the global market.
Although Hyundai showcased the new Elantra it is not until mid-2021 that we’ll be able to see it in flesh in the Indian market.
Before it comes to the Indian market let us have a look at what all Hyundai has to offer with its new Civic rival.
Under the hood, Heart of Hyundai Elantra
A traditional vehicle from Hyundai offers a bunch of engines options, Elantra is no exception. The car might get 4 engine options 3 of which could make it to the Indian market.
- We can expect that the new Hyundai will arrive with the same 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that pushes 152ps@6,200rpm of power and about 192Nm@4,000rpm of peak torque. The two transmission options with the engine are a 6-speed manual and an automatic. But this time around instead of a torque converter the car might come with a CVT automatic transmission.
- According to the demands, the company might also launch the car with 1.5 diesel engine same as Creta. The engine is capable of producing 115ps@4,000rpm of power and 250Nm@1500-2,750rpm of peak torque. With automatics increasing in demand this car can also come with the same IVT from Creta. Along with the Hyundai Elantra might also offer a 6-speed manual transmission.
- An exciting engine can also arrive with the new sporty sedan. The very same 1.4litre engine that made it to the Indian market in the Kia Seltos. This turbo petrol engine makes 140ps@6,000rpm of power and slightly more than 240Nm of peak torque at 1,500-3,200rpm. The engine comes with an equally exciting transmission a 7speed- DCT.
- The Hyundai Elantra in the international market first time comes with a hybrid power train which is doubt whether this will make it to India or not. This setup uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 32kW electric motor. A 1.32kWh Lithium-ion battery powers the motor to give it a combined output of 139hp and 264Nm of torque. This will come with a 6-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).
Design Cues
The new 2021 Hyundai Elantra comes with a whole lot of changes with no resemblance from its previous generation.
Exterior
On the outside, the car follows Hyundai’s new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design scheme. The design looks very promising and unique.
- The car comes with a ton of floating lines which converge at a single point in front. The most prominent line accents are on the doors of the Elantra.
- The all-LED headlights are smartly integrated into the front with the new gunmetal-chrome large grille.
- The new 2021 Elantra looks more like a 4-door sports coupe rather than a 4-door family sedan. Well, Hyundai has surely done the homework and delivers a unique looking car.
- The new design scheme doesn’t end there. The car features the new, famous old-school light bar at the rear across the boot lid which looks like ‘H’ when seen at night.
- The new boot design looks quirky yet elegant and complements the 4-door coupe stance.
Interior
Hyundai claims the car is bigger than the previous generation Elantra. Well, it can be seen that the car has grown in its size. 2021 Hyundai Elantra is 56mm longer, 51mm lower, and 26mm wider that means the car gets a bigger wheelbase, 20mm to be precise.
- Bigger dimensions naturally mean a better cabin space and more comfort for the occupants. Though the hight is reduced, the company says that there is no difference in the headroom of the vehicle.
- 2021 Hyundai Elantra will follow the same design scheme as the new i20 with the 4-spoke steering wheel and slim AC vents with running chrome strip across the dash.
- There will surely be no complaints in the features list as Hyundai always packs their cars with top-notch equipment.
Rivals
The new Hyundai Elantra will come somewhere in 2021. So it is a long wait till the car comes to the shores but by then the new Skoda Octavia, Honda Civic, and possibly a new sedan offering from MG would be waiting for the Hyundai’s welcome. It is next year we’ll be able to see how the competition will phase.
