The Indian automotive market gets new cars each and every day. While the hatchback is a segment that seems to be evergreen in India, we have seen other segments experience either wonderful sale numbers or downfall. In today’s featured, we are going to talk about a segment that was taken over by its own smaller form. Confused? Don’t be. We are talking about how compact sedans started gaining popularity which ultimately led to the downfall of full-sized sedans. Here are a few reasons why we think this might have happened.
-
Engine
The first and the major factor why we think that the compact sedans might have taken over the full-sized sedans is the engine. With compact sedans, you get smaller engines which you can easily get in a hatch too. But if we compare these engines to full-sized sedans who used to have engines over 1.5-litre, we can easily make out that the compact sedans deliver way better mileage without compromising that much on comfort. In today’s world where fuel prices have already scored a century, we think mileage should be considered for sure.

Dimensions
While you drive a full-sized sedan, you need to worry a lot about space and while you are stuck in traffic you just wish if you owned a hatchback. While compact sedans deliver that comfort of being a sedan, you can be sure of the fact that they will help you drive through the traffic. If we compare compact sedans to full-size sedans, the size definitely matters. Especially for the city compatibility, the sub 4 metre form a good choice considering the handling and space.
-
Design
Well, this one is subjected to opinion. Some of you might like the way compact sedans are designed while others might agree to disagree. Considering the stats, we can surely see that subcompact sedans have outsold the sedans in India which forces us to say that people are definitely liking the design factor on the subcompact sedans. Although they look more like an extended hatch, they are definitely good enough to be called a sedan.
-
Boot Space
If you buy a compact sedan, you can be sure of the fact that you will get better boot space than a hatchback. Although, you won’t get boot space like a full-sized sedan you won’t feel any lack of space because the price will lure you for sure. In this world of pricey hatches, there is nothing wrong with going for a compact sedan. If you were planning to buy a sedan, the compact version could be a better option. Why, you ask? Read on!

Price
Last but not least. The most important factor that people consider while buying a car is the price. Compact sedans are definitely cheaper than full-sized sedans. This is because they are in the sub-4-metre range so they attract lesser tax. This means that the benefit is transferred to you, the customer who ends up paying less for a sedan! A full-sized sedan costs more than a compact one as its manufacturing cost is more and obviously the tax is also more in comparison to a compact sedan.
So these were the 5 reasons why we think compact sedans took over the full-sized sedans in India. What do you think about the downfall of the full-sized sedans? Do let us know in the comments section below.
The third reason is so lame. “Considering the stats, we can surely see that subcompact sedans have outsold the sedans in India which forces us to say that people are definitely liking the design factor on the subcompact sedans.” According to your own fifth reason people choose these sub compact sedan’s because of the price, then how did you deduce that according to the sales stats, the design of compact sedan’s cooler.
