When we talk about the top-selling cars, most people expect that the list would consist of Mruti’s majority. They are absolutely right with their thought because Maruti has the largest market share in India and they always have at least the top 5 ranks among the top-selling cars. But this time, the scenario is quite different. Hyundai Creta is leading the chart this time! yes, you read that right! let’s get into the stats without wasting any more time.
-
Hyundai Creta (7,527 Units)
This time, you will be surprised to see that a Maruti is not at the top. We don’t know why this has happened this time but at least, we have seen a month where Maruti is not at the top! Hyundai Creta leads the list this time with a sale of 7,527 units. The sad part here is that no car was able to touch the 10k mark but considering the pandemic and the lockdown, this number is quite good actually.
-
Maruti Suzuki Swift (7,005 Units)
In second place is the Maruti Suzuki Swift with a sale of 7,005 units. Maruti finally gave up the first spot but landed in the second one. If you compare this sale figure with what Swift sold in April 2021, you would realise that there has been a 61.75% drop and the cause is obvious the lockdown. Do you think the sale will pick up in June?
-
Kia Sonet (6,627 Units)
In the third place is the Kia Sonet. This time, the list of top-selling cars in India for May 2021 has got a variety of cars in the top places. While people were too tired of seeing Maruti in the top 3 every time, this indicates that other brands are gearing their game up too. With just 14% MoM drop, Sonet seems to have hit the least by the lockdown.

-
Tata Nexon (6,439 Units)
Finally, this one has also climbed the ladder up. We are seeing many new cars on the list this time. Tata Nexon stood fourth with a sale of 6,439 units. With this figure, the MoM drop is just around 7%! Isn’t that great? The way cars like Nexon and Sonet have dealt with the lockdown is definitely worth praising. Nexon, being one of the safest cars that you would see on the Indian roads, continues to be a decision of many customers nowadays.
- Maruti Dzire (5,819 Units)
Moving on, we have another Maruti among the top-selling cars in May 2021. The Maruti Dzire is available only in petrol as of now and no more looks like a taxi to anyone. Maruti has worked a lot to develop a new image for the Dzire as a private car. On the other hand, removing CNG from the lineup might have caused the sales to fall a bit? A sale of 5,819 units despite of the lockdown is quite good actually.
-
Hyundai Venue (4,840 Units)
Another one from the Korean automaker. Hyundai venue rivals the Kia Sonet in the Indian market and this time, it has sold lower than its rival Venue ended May 2021 with a sale of 4,840 units which means there is a 57% drop which is unacceptable but considering the lockdown, we can say there is hope for Venue to rise again once the situation gets normal.

-
Maruti Suzuki Baleno (4,803 Units)
This is most probably the first time we are seeing Baleno in the second half of the list. We are also surprised to see how tables have turned this month. Maruti Baleno stands at 7th place with a sale of 4,803 units and an MoM drop of around 71%! Definitely, a figure to worry about.
-
Kia Seltos (4,277 Units)
While Creta is at the top, Seltos lovers might feel a bit sad seeing their favourite car in 8th place. Kia Seltos ended up May 2021 with a sale of 4,277 units which means an MoM drop of around 47%! Kia Motors has seen how India loves driving the Seltos and how they have made this car an absolute success and their brand a top-selling one with just 1 car in the entire lineup. We expect much more from you Seltos!
-
Hyundai NIOS (3,804 Units)
The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is a very good contender for the Indian market from the Hyundai lineup. NIOS looks sporty and at the same time delivers great performance and mileage. No one knows why the claimed mileage for the NIOS on CNG is so low but if you go for a turbo one, believe us you are gonna enjoy the ride. NIOS ended up May 2021 with a sale of 3,804 units and an MoM drop of 67.04%/
-
Mahindra Bolero (3,517 Units)
Surprise surprise! We have a new entrant on our list of top-selling cars in India for the month of May 2021. Mahindra Bolero has entered the top 10 for the very first time and we believe with the upcoming Mahindra lineup, we will have to set a habit of seeing one or the other Mahindra in the top 10 for sure. Mahindra people, if you are reading this, please commence the launches real soon!
