Electric cars are a hot topic in the automotive industry right now. New buyers are actually considering electric vehicles over regular ICE ones. We have all been hearing that EVs will be the Kings 5 years down the line, but what about today? Is an electric car something that you should really consider if you’re in the market right now? Today, we’ll discuss this in detail, and guide you to the right choice!

How robust is the Electric Car system right now?
Honestly, in India, the system is just not as robust as it is in Europe or North America. We don’t have enough charging stations, and certainly not enough superchargers that people can use on road trips. Also, Indian manufacturers have only just started manufacturing Electric Cars, so their reliability is also kind of a question mark. We have seen a lot of owners facing problems with the Nexon EV.

How affordable are Electric Cars?
Most buyers will switch to electric for one main reason, cost-efficiency. So naturally, electric cars need to be affordable. A few Indian cars like the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and a few more upcoming EVs are decently priced. However, these cars might come with a fair set of issues with the software, batteries, range, etc. The higher quality EVs like the Hyundai Kona, MG ZS-ev are priced in a higher segment. Tesla is also planning on launching the Model 3 in India; however, looking at the taxes we don’t think that it will fall under the ‘Affordable’ category.

Who should consider EVs?
Currently, there are 2 types of buyers who can practically consider an EV. The first one is the strict city driver. If you’re someone who strictly drives only in the city, you can consider an electric vehicle. You will have access to a charger at all times, and the service centers will also be nearby if something goes wrong. You can do short highway drives too, but I wouldn’t risk going more than 100-120Kms outside the city. The second category is someone who will not be using this car as their primary vehicle. If you’re someone who already has a car that you use for long drives, then you can opt for an electric vehicle as your second car.
That said, an EV will surely be much cheaper to drive and own than a petrol/diesel car. These are also extremely silent and smooth as compared to ICE-driven cars. Will you consider buying an electric vehicle right now? Let us know in the comments!
It looks like you are against tata your words and thought are not good toward nature saving from pollution surely.it will take time but future is now become present
Hi Karan, we are not against any manufacturers! As a service and repair oriented brand, we deeply understand that newer products are prone to faults and fixing them takes time.
Please don’t confuse and demotivate people about charging stations. daily commute can be managed by home charging.
Hi Sagar, that is exactly what we are trying to say! EVs are best suited for daily commute
The main topic of discussion is not touched at all. That is, when would you decide to go for an electric car
Hey Ajay, the right time depends on your usage and requirements, which we have discussed above! Thanks for reading!
Well Said, its hard to go for long drive from Bangalore as there are only 3-4 cities in Karnataka that has charging station. No EV will give range of 400 KM in single charge with AC and full load.
